On November 24, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) reported to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the damage caused by floods in the South Central and Central Highlands provinces, along with the support measures the Ministry is implementing.
In recent days, floods in the South Central and Central Highlands provinces have caused heavy damage to the education sector. According to the synthesis from localities, floods have killed 4 students, of which Dak Lak has 3 students and Lam Dong has 1 student; Gia Lai, Khanh Hoa and Quang Ngai provinces have not recorded any human losses.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, as of noon on November 24, in terms of facilities, many schools were deeply flooded, had landslides, damaged fences, teaching equipment, embankments, parking lots and drainage systems; trees were knocked down. The total estimated damage in the 5 provinces was 97,537.9 million VND. Due to the fragmented terrain and the water not yet completely receded, localities are still continuing to count the damage.
The damage to textbooks and school supplies was also huge. Quang Ngai suffered the most damage, with 38,810 sets of textbooks damaged.
Regarding teaching and learning activities, 1,942 schools/school locations had to let students stay home due to the impact of floods. As of noon on November 24, 360 schools were still unable to resume operations.
Faced with the above situation, the Ministry of Education and Training has directed the Departments of Education and Training to urgently review damage to facilities and teaching equipment, and propose that the Provincial People's Committee allocate funds for repairs.
To ensure that students have enough textbooks, based on the needs reported by provinces and cities, the Ministry of Education and Training said it will organize the free distribution of all textbooks to students in flood-affected areas.
The Ministry of Education and Training has also directed the Vietnam Education Publishing House and school equipment and textbook companies to coordinate with localities to count the number of damaged textbooks to provide timely support.
Currently, Vietnam Education Publishing House has prepared 10 million textbooks to provide to students in flood-affected areas, has basically completed support for Dak Lak province and is continuing to deploy in Gia Lai, Khanh Hoa, Quang Ngai and Lam Dong.
Along with that, the Ministry of Education and Training launched a fundraising campaign among all civil servants, public employees, and workers at the Ministry's agencies and affiliated public service units, supporting each damaged province with 300 million VND, the total support amount for the 5 provinces is 1.5 billion VND; supporting families with deceased students with 5 million VND/family, a total of 20 million VND.
At the same time, the Ministry of Education and Training also coordinated with Tuoi Tre Newspaper in Ho Chi Minh City to support teachers of 5 provinces with 2 billion VND and is coordinating with localities to allocate to the Departments of Education and Training.
