The General Department of Sports and Physical Training has just reviewed and added two athletes Nguyen Ngoc Minh Hy and Hua Van Huy in Taekwondo to the list of candidates for the Third Class Labor Medal. The pair of athletes will be on the second list of candidates.
Initially, Minh Hy and Van Huy were on the list of candidates for the Third Class Labor Medal in the first round. However, the Emulation Board of the Ministry of the Interior rejected the names of the two athletes because they did not meet the criteria according to Clause e, Section 1, Article 8, in the Circular on commendation standards and commendation proposals of the Ministry of Culture - Sports - Tourism dated March 30, 2015. Specifically, Clause e, Section 1, Article 8 states: " Winning gold medals at 3 consecutive SEA Games in a competition with one event ".

Minh Hy and Van Huy have won three consecutive SEA Games gold medals in the team creative freestyle event. However, at the 32nd SEA Games, these two athletes competed in the men's individual creative freestyle event and won bronze and silver medals respectively. This is the reason why the Competition Committee rejected the proposal to reward the two athletes.
In the first round, Nguyen Thi Oanh was a special case when she was proposed to be awarded the Second Class Labor Medal. Some other athletes on the list proposed to be awarded the Third Class Labor Medal include: track and field athlete Nguyen Thi Huyen (3 gold medals, 1 silver medal); swimmers such as Tran Hung Nguyen (3 gold medals, 1 silver medal, 1 bronze medal); Pham Thanh Bao (2 gold medals, broke 2 SEA Games records), Nguyen Huy Hoang (2 gold medals, 1 bronze medal).
Athletes with excellent achievements in many consecutive SEA Games such as Can Tat Du, Nguyen Xuan Dinh (wrestling), Nguyen Duy Tuyen (pencak silat), Bui Yen Ly (Kun Khmer), Lai Gia Thanh (weightlifting), Duong Thuy Vi (wushu),... are all eligible for awards.
Currently, the General Department of Sports and Physical Training is meeting with the delegation officials and coaches of the departments to finalize the list of 196 other individuals who are on the list to be proposed for the Prime Minister 's Certificate of Merit. On May 23, the Party and State leaders will meet the Vietnam Sports Delegation to honor and present the noble awards.
