According to the Ministry of Health , in recent times, the production and trade of fake food has become complicated, with the most prominent being the production and trade of fake milk, fake MSG, fake cooking oil, fake health protection foods, etc., causing confusion among the public because consumers have accidentally bought and used these products.
Implementing the direction of the Prime Minister in Official Dispatch No. 40/CD-TTg dated April 17, 2025 on handling the case of production and distribution of fake milk; The Ministry of Health - Standing Committee of the Central Inter-sectoral Steering Committee on Food Safety issued Official Dispatch No. 2657/BYT-ATTP dated May 5, 2025 requesting members of the Central Inter-sectoral Steering Committee on Food Safety and People's Committees of provinces/cities under the Central Government based on the assigned areas of food safety management, urgently implement many contents. Specifically:
The Ministry of Health requests relevant units to strengthen market management, inspection and examination of food products on the market, focusing on detecting ingredients of unknown origin, fake food, fake milk, fake health protection foods, poor quality foods, foods that have not yet self-declared/registered for market declaration procedures in order to promptly detect, prevent and strictly handle violations.
At the same time, relevant units need to strengthen the review and handling of violations of food advertising on the Internet or other mass media in accordance with the law; increase information and propaganda on legal regulations on ensuring food safety to raise consumer awareness in choosing, purchasing and using food products.
At the same time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade; the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ; the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism need to review regulations on ensuring food safety for food products, especially for dairy products, nutritional products, and functional foods; proactively amend or propose competent authorities to amend current regulations when necessary to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of food safety management.
