The Department of Medical Examination and Treatment ( Ministry of Health ) has just issued an official dispatch requesting inspection of medical facilities advertising high-tech blood filtration methods that can reduce the risk of stroke.
Specifically, the Department requested the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health to inspect facilities advertising blood filtration techniques to remove blood fat, which are said to help "radically resolve the risk of stroke" and bring "clean blood" to the body.
Some medical examination and treatment facilities have advertising activities on social networking sites such as the Facebook address https://www.facebook.com/share/v/14vaFottJw/ of DNA International Hospital, advertising a blood filtration method that can remove bad fat, reduce the risk of stroke, with the cost of implementation only 1/3 compared to countries such as Japan, Germany or the US.
The Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management requested the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health to review and clarify the advertisement of DNA International Hospital, and check whether the advertising techniques are on the list licensed by the Ministry of Health. If there are any violations, strict handling is required. At the same time, the Department requested the Departments of Health nationwide to review and handle similar advertisements.
Hemodialysis, especially modern hemodialysis technology such as "dual phase plasma exchange" (DFPP), is used in the treatment of serious diseases such as myasthenia gravis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, or hyperlipidemia.
This is a technique that is effective in treating patients with serious illnesses, not a solution for healthy people or to prevent disease.
Doctors say that advertising dialysis as a "beauty" or "stroke prevention" method is untrue and can mislead consumers.
In fact, DFPP only has the effect of supporting the treatment of specific diseases, it cannot "radically solve" the problems of healthy people. This method can also cause serious risks and complications such as imbalance syndrome, blood clots in the blood vessels, and embolism due to air bubbles.
In addition to the lack of scientific evidence for the effectiveness of dialysis in stroke prevention, the cost of a single DFPP procedure can be up to hundreds of millions of VND, while the actual cost of this method is only about 35 million VND. This raises questions about medical facilities taking advantage of this technology to defraud people, causing financial and health damage.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Lan Hieu, Director of Hanoi Medical University Hospital, made a clear assessment of these advertisements. He said that if it only took 2-3 hours with a cost of less than ten million to prevent stroke, high blood fat or diabetes, then cardiologists would certainly be unemployed.
A truly effective treatment would be included in professional society guidelines, he stressed, but so far there is no recommendation for dialysis as a preventative measure.
Dialysis is only indicated when a patient has a specific diagnosis, such as kidney failure, heart failure, severe infection or acute pancreatitis. It is an effective treatment and can save many lives in critical situations. However, the use of dialysis as a preventive method has no clear scientific basis.
Medical experts recommend that people maintain a healthy diet, exercise regularly and have regular health check-ups instead of believing in unscientific advertisements. Arbitrarily using drugs of unknown origin can be harmful, increase the risk of other serious diseases and cause financial losses.
