The 2024 Paris Olympics will begin on July 26 and run until August 11. The opening ceremony will take place on the banks of the Seine River at 7:30 p.m. on July 26 (local time), and 1:30 a.m. on July 27 ( Hanoi time).
This year’s Olympics will see most of the events taking place in the city centre. Existing infrastructure, tourist attractions and famous architectural works of Paris will be the venue for some of the events. Therefore, there will be some restrictions on movement in Paris during this time.
Move
The Paris Metro and RER, which connect the centre and the suburbs, are a fast and efficient way to get around Paris and its suburbs. However, this summer, to ensure safety and carry out upgrades, three metro stations – Concorde (lines 1, 8 and 12), Tuileries (line 1), Champs-Élysées-Clémenceau (lines 1 and 13) – will be closed in several phases, from late June to September, including the Olympics, from 20 July to 11 August.
From July 18 to 26, some metro and RER stations will be closed for security reasons in preparation for the opening ceremony.
Buses and trams are an alternative way to get around and also provide a great way to see the sights. The bus network is extensive, covering the entire city and surrounding areas. Ten free, no-reservation bus routes will take visitors to the six venues furthest from the public transport network.
Paris has a safe cycling network of more than 400 km and choosing to bike for transportation is a solution this summer. All venues in the Paris region (except Arena Paris Nord Villepinte) can rent bikes. Tens of thousands of bikes are ready.
Many of the venues are located in central Paris, within walking distance of each other. You can easily get there on foot and wander through the streets.
For taxis, check your route in advance and pay by the kilometre on the meter. Taxis and minibuses are not allowed in the grey zone around the Seine from 18 to 26 July. And from 27 July to 11 August, taxis and minibuses are not allowed in the red zone and the area around the Olympic venues, except to pick up and drop off pass holders.
From July 18 to 26, everyone must present a specially issued pass to enter the special grey areas along the banks of the Seine where the opening ceremony will take place.
* Note: Paris has set up security zones around the opening ceremony, major matches and some events. These zones are grey and red. Visitors are not allowed to enter without a special pass.
Tourist attractions become Olympic venues
One of the special things about the 2024 Paris Olympics is that there will be no wasteful construction of additional stadiums. If you are a tourist, you can enjoy the Olympic atmosphere at tourist attractions that are used as competition venues.
Equestrian, cycling, beach volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, judo, wrestling, marathon, skateboarding... will be held entirely or partly at Trocadéro square (looking directly at the Eiffel Tower), Eiffel Tower, Champ de Mars (the long lawn under the Eiffel Tower), Palace of Versailles, Invalides Esplanade (complex on the Seine River), Pont Alexandre III bridge, Place de la Concorde (Concorde square), the large square in front of the Hôtel de Ville (Paris City Hall).
Sports tickets
Every Thursday at 10am Paris time, the official website of the Paris 2024 Olympics will release tickets for the games at various prices. The official website also accepts ticket buybacks, so if you have tickets to sell or buy back, please follow the information on the page.
Tickets for the 2024 Olympics are only issued electronically, there are no paper tickets. Paper tickets are all fake. Visitors should be aware that there are currently scams related to ticket sales. The official website is the place to ensure that you can buy real tickets for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
