Vietnam lost narrowly to Thailand.

The final match started in the most favorable way possible for Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team. The Vietnamese team entered the game confidently, playing evenly and maintaining an effective attacking tempo. Tran Thi Thanh Thuy continued to be the biggest asset in the offense with her powerful spikes, helping Vietnam win the first set 25-19. This was also Vietnam's fourth consecutive set win in the history of 12 encounters with Thailand in SEA Games finals, a number that demonstrates the toughness of their opponent.

However, that advantage quickly faded. Thailand demonstrated the resilience of the region's most successful team by regrouping in the second set. The home team completely controlled the game, defending solidly and organizing effective counter-attacks. At one point, Thailand created a huge lead, going ahead of Vietnam 22-9, before closing out the set with a 25-13 score.

In the third set, the game didn't change much. Thailand continued to dominate, fueled by the enthusiastic support of the home crowd. The Vietnamese team tried to catch up but struggled with receiving the first pass and blocking. The set ended with a 25-18 victory for Thailand, leaving Vietnam in a position where they had to win.

The drama intensified in the fourth set. The Vietnamese team showed an unyielding spirit, played with focus, and capitalized on crucial opportunities. Tran Thi Thanh Thuy once again shone at the right moment with a decisive point, helping Vietnam win a nail-biting 25-23 and take the match to a deciding set.

In the fifth set, the Vietnamese team mounted a strong comeback and at one point came very close to victory. However, Thailand's experience and composure prevailed at the right moment. The home team carefully secured every crucial point and won the final set 25-23, successfully defending their gold medal.

A narrow defeat once again dashed the hopes of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team of winning a gold medal at the SEA Games, but their courageous performance against Thailand still left a positive impression.
