The focus, as usual, is still the competition between the two "queens" of Southeast Asian volleyball - Thailand and Vietnam. According to the draw results on October 19, the women's event has 7 participating teams. The Vietnamese team is in group B with Indonesia, Myanmar and Malaysia while group A includes host Thailand, the Philippines and Singapore.

This is considered a favorable result, helping coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team have more time to test and perfect their squad before aiming for the highest goal. The first and second-placed teams in each group will advance to the semi-finals; the two semi-final winners will meet in the final match to compete for the gold medal.
Thailand is currently the number one in the region with 16 SEA Games championships and aims to win the championship for the 17th time right at home in Bangkok. Meanwhile, Vietnam has won the runner-up position 11 times, always stopping before this opponent. This time, with a young force and a desire to break through, the Vietnamese team is determined to rewrite history, bringing home the first gold medal for women's volleyball in the country.
According to the plan, the team will gather from October 25 to December 20 in Quang Ninh . The list of 20 athletes, who are excellent faces and have played consistently in the second phase of the 2025 National Championship, has just been announced. Two important pillars, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and Tran Thi Bich Thuy, cannot participate because they are competing in the Japanese Championship (V.League). It is expected that both will only return to Vietnam on December 2 to join the team.
Notably, this time the training list marks the return of middle blocker Luu Thi Hue after 3 years of absence due to injury, along with Dang Thi Kim Thanh, who recently made a great contribution to helping Long An defend the national championship. The coaching staff will shorten the list to 14 players before leaving for Thailand to attend the congress.
In the men's category, Vietnam is in Group A with Thailand, Singapore and Laos; Group B includes Indonesia, Cambodia, Philippines and Myanmar. Although the men's team aims to reach the semi-finals, the focus of fans is still on the "big battle" between Thailand and Vietnam in the women's category, where coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team are hoping to change the color of the medal.
With careful preparation, a well-balanced force and high determination, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is ready for the journey to write a new milestone - ending more than 2 decades of Thai domination and bringing home a historic gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games.
The volleyball event at the 33rd SEA Games will take place from December 10 to 15 in Bangkok, right at the stadium that hosted the 2025 World Championship, promising to bring the most professional and enthusiastic atmosphere in the region.
