"The 'Flower with a Defect' Overcomes Fate"

BPO - The rapid development of science, technology, and digital applications has created entrepreneurial opportunities and employment for many young people. In particular, for people with disabilities, digital applications and platforms have helped them overcome self-doubt, develop their strengths, and find suitable jobs. Dinh Thi Cam Tien, from Binh Loi village, Phuoc Minh commune, Bu Gia Map district, is one such example. Her story of overcoming hardship and rising above adversity has been a powerful source of inspiration for many.

Overcoming inferiority complex

"Online sales have bridged geographical distances, eliminated feelings of inferiority about physical differences, and boosted the confidence of people with disabilities," Cam Tien shared about her current work.

Born into a rural family with limited financial resources, Cam Tien, with two siblings, felt self-conscious about her physical disability and lacked the means to continue her education, so she dropped out of school after junior high. To help support her family, she took on cashew nut shelling work at home, but the income was very low. “My height is only a little over 1 meter. I can walk, but not very far, so I can’t sell lottery tickets or do odd jobs like other disabled people. I know I’m at a disadvantage because of my appearance, so I only dreamed of finding a suitable job near home with a stable salary, not necessarily a high one,” Cam Tien shared. And then her dream came true.

In 2023, upon learning that Mr. Do Van Phuc's Hoya Garden, located right in her village, was hiring online sales assistants, Cam Tien boldly applied and was accepted for a trial period. “Initially, I felt insecure because I am disabled and didn't know if I could handle the job. Luckily, I received enthusiastic support from the garden owners. I learned about the different types of Hoyas in the garden, the characteristics of each flower, and also learned how to sell on digital platforms; I practiced how to talk to and advise customers to ensure their satisfaction,” Cam Tien shared about her efforts.

After more than a year of selling online, Cam Tien confidently participates in livestream sales on digital platforms such as Facebook, Zalo, TikTok, and e-commerce sites; she has mastered the process of packaging seedlings in cardboard boxes for delivery. Cam Tien is always enthusiastic, introducing products, advising customers, and closing orders quickly. The lush, vibrant green potted plants are carefully packaged by Cam Tien and shipped to all parts of the country.

Success comes from effort and perseverance.

"Don't let feelings of inferiority and fear hold you back. Whether we succeed or not depends on our own strong will, effort, and perseverance," Cam Tien advised.

"Even though I'm disabled, I haven't given up or resigned myself to my fate. I'm luckier than many others because I can hear and speak normally, and I'm even more fluent in language. This is also what helps me adapt easily to my current sales job," Cẩm Tiên said.

For Cam Tien, the development of modern technology and digital platforms has opened new doors for people with disabilities. Smartphones and computers, aided by the internet and digital technology, seem to have erased physical limitations and helped Cam Tien confidently integrate into the community, earn a stable income, and above all, find joy in life every day.

Every day, Cam Tien's job involves advising customers, finalizing orders, and packaging orders for delivery.

Mr. Do Van Phuc, owner of Phuc's Hoya Garden, said: "Cam Tien is a young girl full of determination. She is very optimistic and eager to learn. Cam Tien has been striving every day to contribute her small part to our business."

Cam Tien's journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and self-belief. "Even if I'm different, I can still do it, even do it really well if I keep trying." And for this young girl, although the journey ahead is still long, it will surely be filled with fragrant flowers and sweet fruits, the result of her continuous efforts aided by digital technology – something that is present everywhere in life today.
