Documentary "Heritage Keeper" directed by Le Thanh Lich and Dang Minh Hung (Vietnam Center for Cinema, Culture, Sports and Tourism).
The film is considered to have cultural depth, rich in humanity and strong impact. Without exaggeration or dramatic effects, the film conquers viewers with its honesty, simplicity and the light radiating from the characters' lives.
The film takes the audience through the true life of Professor, Doctor, Artist Chu Bao Que - who was born in the poor countryside of Bac Ninh , where the lyrical Quan Ho melodies permeate every breath of life. Since his childhood, amidst deprivation and hardship, the boy Bao Que soon revealed his deep love for Quan Ho folk songs. Without the conditions to receive formal training, he persevered in self-studying, listening, taking notes, and practicing his voice - a quiet but determined journey.
It was his burning passion that helped him overcome his circumstances, gradually becoming one of the leading artists and researchers of Bac Ninh Quan Ho, contributing to preserving the treasure trove of ancient melodies with his lifelong devotion.

Directors Le Thanh Lich and Dang Minh Hung recreate the image of artist Chu Bao Que through expressive footage: from the moment he quietly opens each page of old documents, to the moment he thoroughly teaches each ancient song to the young generation. The film crew's lens patiently follows him during practice sessions, nights of documenting, and field trips to preserve traditional singing.
The film not only outlines his personal journey but also recreates the process of artist Chu Bao Que bringing Quan Ho to friends around the world. Through precious documentary footage, the audience can witness his images during his performances, compositions and teaching tours in many countries...

According to the film crew, “Heritage Keeper” was made over many months with many difficulties in terms of materials, weather, transportation and setting. But it was these challenges that helped the film have depth, authenticity and emotion.
Director Le Thanh Lich shared that when starting the film, the crew had a special mindset, which was not only to make a film, but also to find cultural values that are gradually fading away in the modern pace of life.
Therefore, each conversation with artist Chu Bao Que, each location associated with Quan Ho made the performers more emotional. There were moments when the whole group fell silent when listening to him sing, or when looking at the documents that he had kept for his whole life.

“The Golden Lotus Award is a great joy, but for us, what is more important is that the audience can understand more about an artist who has devoted his life to preserving the soul of national culture. This is not only a work, but also our gratitude and appreciation for Professor, Doctor, Artist Chu Bao Que - the keeper of the soul of Vietnam's heritage,” director Le Thanh Lich expressed.
The film also contributes a voice in raising public awareness about heritage conservation, while inspiring the younger generation to continue preserving the nation's precious traditional values.
