Brighton & Hove Albion produced a dramatic display as they twice came from behind to win 3-2 against reigning champions Liverpool at the Amex Stadium. The victory marked the first time the Seagulls had beaten Liverpool in five meetings.

Despite being crowned champions early, Liverpool were not at all complacent when they visited Brighton, who still had hopes of qualifying for Europe next season. The reigning Premier League champions opened the match with a powerful shot from Cody Gakpo in the first minute and quickly showed their strength by taking the lead after nine minutes. Conor Bradley entered the penalty area to receive the ball and assist Harvey Elliott to finish the goal into the home team's net.
Brighton fought back strongly after being behind at home, but Simon Adingra's effort only ended up in the top of the net after being deflected off Bradley's foot. Pervis Estupinan then tried his luck again, but his shot from a corner was completely harmless.
Brighton showed their determination as they continued to press. Yankuba Minteh had a shot cleared, while Danny Welbeck headed wide under pressure from Kostas Tsimikas. However, the home side's efforts were rewarded in the 30th minute when Yasin Ayari controlled Brajan Gruda's pass perfectly before coolly slotting past Alisson Becker.
However, Brighton's joy could not last long when in the final seconds of the first half, Szoboszlai helped Liverpool regain their advantage by defeating Bart Verbruggen, making it 2-1 and helping the visitors enter the break with the advantage.
Alisson twice denied Welbeck from scoring early in the second half, once from the England striker's free-kick and then from a header from a corner. Although Gruda was also blocked by Alisson, Brighton were not discouraged. Then Kaoru Mitoma shone just five minutes after coming off the bench. The Japanese striker neatly finished to make it 2-2 in the 69th minute after latching on to a rebound. Mitoma's goal sent the tens of thousands of spectators at the Amex into a frenzy.

Liverpool's disappointment in the second half did not end there. A tactical change by coach Fabian Hurzeler made the difference when Jack Hinshelwood scored the winner from Matt O'Riley's pass in the 85th minute. The win over Liverpool lifted Brighton to eighth place and opened up the chance of qualifying for European competition.
With this defeat, Liverpool have suffered two consecutive away defeats for the first time since April 2023. However, they have scored in every away game of a top-flight season for the first time in their history.
