Jennifer Lopez's 'Unstoppable' Premiere Canceled

Unstoppable , directed by William Goldenberg and produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, tells the true story of wrestler Anthony Robles (played by Jharrel Jerome), who was born with only one leg. Jennifer Lopez plays Judy Robles – Anthony's mother.

The event at the DGA Theater was canceled "due to safety concerns related to high winds and wildfire activity in Los Angeles today," a representative for the film's distributor Amazon MGM Studios said in a statement to People magazine.

"While we look forward to sharing this wonderful and inspiring film with you, safety is our top priority. Thank you for your understanding and please stay safe," the statement read.

The Los Angeles County National Weather Service warned residents on January 6 that a "life-threatening" and "destructive" wind storm was about to impact Southern California, bringing with it significant fire danger.

The cause of the Pacific Palisades fire is under investigation, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Homes in the foothills of that neighborhood were ordered to evacuate on the morning of January 7.

Los Angeles officials said the fire had spread rapidly in just a few hours, reaching nearly 320 hectares by 2:20 p.m. (local time). More than 250 Los Angeles firefighters responded to the ongoing emergency.

Following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024, the sports biopic Unstoppable will be available to stream on Prime Video on January 16.

Supporting actors Don Cheadle, Michael Pena, and Mykelti Williamson were scheduled to attend the red carpet event on January 7 but were unable to do so.

Jennifer Lopez kicked off the new year with a red carpet debut at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on January 4, where she was honored with one of Variety 's creative impact awards.
