Over the past year, the province has maintained customs clearance operations at 5 border gates: Huu Nghi International Border Gate, Dong Dang International Railway Station Border Gate, Chi Ma Border Gate, Na Hinh Border Gate, and Na Nua Border Gate. Import and export activities through these border gates have been vibrant, with an average of over 1,600 vehicles cleared per day, reaching over 2,000 vehicles per day during peak periods.
Facilitating customs clearance
In 2025, import and export activities experienced strong growth; however, at times, Chinese customs authorities tightened control over imported goods related to issues such as origin, packaging, labeling, and food quality, especially for Vietnamese agricultural products. Furthermore, the issuance of temporary license plates for imported automobiles also encountered many obstacles… This significantly affected the speed of customs clearance at the province's border gates.
To promptly resolve issues and expedite customs clearance of import and export goods through border gates, relevant departments and units have advised the Provincial People's Committee to implement a comprehensive set of solutions to facilitate customs clearance, such as: strengthening the exchange and understanding of information on new mechanisms and policies of China to disseminate to import and export businesses in the area; flexibly organizing foreign affairs activities; and promoting the application of information technology in customs work…
Ms. Cao Hoai Phuong, Deputy Team Leader of Huu Nghi International Border Gate Customs, said: To improve the efficiency of import and export customs clearance, the unit has promoted the application of digital transformation, conducted inspections through the electronic declaration system, and applied the digital border gate platform… In addition, the unit organized "Customs - Business" dialogue conferences to disseminate new policies; and at the same time promoted the role of problem-solving teams, promptly grasping the operational situation of businesses to find solutions to overcome difficulties. In particular, the unit has proactively coordinated with the Vietnam Register and the Provincial Police to resolve difficulties and facilitate the issuance of temporary license plates for imported automobiles...

Not only the Huu Nghi International Border Gate Customs, but also the units under the Customs Sub-department of Region VI are actively implementing solutions, focusing on key tasks such as: strengthening personnel deployment, extending working hours; promoting the application of information technology, reforming administrative procedures; closely coordinating with functional forces at the border gate to provide information, regulate vehicles, support goods flow management, ensure security and order, and prevent congestion in the border gate area…
Ms. Nong Thi Thu Hien, representative of Con Ong Transportation and Logistics Joint Stock Company ( Ho Chi Minh City), said: "Our company specializes in transporting imported and exported electronic components. We have been importing and exporting goods through Huu Nghi International Border Gate for many years. During the customs clearance process, I, like other import and export businesses, have received dedicated support and favorable conditions from customs officers and relevant authorities at the border gate. As a result, our import and export activities have been smooth and efficient."
In addition, the Management Board of the Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Economic Zone has also strengthened its external relations activities, exchanging information to resolve difficulties and promote customs clearance facilitation. In 2025, the board coordinated with relevant sectors and forces to organize 16 working meetings with relevant Chinese agencies; sent 58 working letters to exchange and agree on contents to facilitate customs clearance. At the same time, the board regularly monitors the situation and information to advise businesses to proactively produce and conduct business in accordance with Chinese standards.
Thanks to the support solutions from relevant departments and agencies, import and export activities through the province's border gates proceeded smoothly last year, building confidence among import and export businesses. Accordingly, in 2025, 5,279 businesses participated in import and export activities through the province, including 2,326 new businesses registering to open customs declarations at the customs office.
Creating momentum for a breakthrough.
The import and export of goods through border gates, dedicated routes, and customs clearance points between Lang Son and Guangxi, China, has been maintained stably and smoothly, significantly contributing to the economic growth of the province's border trade. By 2025, the total import and export turnover of all types through the province is expected to reach US$85.23 billion, an increase of 45.6% compared to 2024. This is the highest import and export turnover ever achieved by Lang Son province.
Not only did the total trade turnover increase, but import and export tax revenue also rose significantly, exceeding the set target. Specifically, in 2025, import and export tax revenue is projected to reach VND 12,006.4 billion, a 77% increase compared to 2024, achieving 186% of the initial target (VND 6,450 billion), and 105% of the aspirational target (VND 11,400 billion).
Mr. Vy Cong Tuong, Deputy Head of the Customs Sub-Department Region VI, stated: Entering 2026, to promote customs clearance activities, support and attract import-export businesses, the sub-department will continue to accelerate administrative procedure reforms, shorten processing times, and improve service quality; extensively implement digital customs and smart customs models, linked with perfecting the digital ecosystem at border gates. Along with the customs agency, in 2026, the relevant departments, sectors, and functional forces of the province will continue to strengthen diplomatic activities with Chinese agencies; promote investment and trade promotion activities to advertise and attract businesses to operate import and export activities in the province; and continue to coordinate with central agencies to gradually remove difficulties in import and export activities.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Toan, Head of the Management Board of the Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Economic Zone, stated: 2025 will see a breakthrough in import and export activities through the province. This serves as a foundation and driving force for the province to continue promoting solutions to improve customs clearance capacity, attract businesses to invest, and expand import and export markets. In the coming time, the board will continue to proactively carry out foreign affairs work, contributing to strengthening cooperative, solidarity, and friendly relations between the Management Board of the Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Economic Zone and Chinese agencies; while promoting the construction of border gate infrastructure, unifying measures to facilitate customs clearance, and resolving difficulties and obstacles to ensure smooth customs clearance and stable and developing investment and business activities in the border economic zone.
The breakthrough in import-export turnover and budget revenue in 2025 has contributed to affirming the role and position of Lang Son province as the most important land gateway connecting Vietnam and ASEAN countries with the vast Chinese market. It is expected that in 2026, the border gate economy will continue to maintain its growth momentum, making a positive contribution to the province's goal of rapid and sustainable development.
