Painting of carp jumping over the dragon gate in Tam Coc rice fields
For the fourth year bringing vivid pictures to the most beautiful rice fields in Vietnam, Tam Coc - Ninh Binh, the local tourism industry has chosen the image of a carp jumping over the dragon gate as its symbol.
Two carps with strong shapes, long whiskers, and golden scales were skillfully painted by farmers in the field.
Carp jumping over the Dragon Gate is a popular image in feng shui art. This image is a symbol of perseverance, effort to overcome difficulties, and reach success. According to folk beliefs, carp is considered a symbol of longevity and luck.
The painting of carp jumping over the dragon gate is the highlight of Ninh Binh Tourism Week "Golden Color of Tam Coc - Trang An" 2025
Previously, paintings such as flags, carp watching the moon, and shepherd playing the flute left a good impression on visitors.
The rice variety chosen to create the painting of carp jumping over the dragon gate in Tam Coc is Thai Xuyen variety, which has the characteristics of a hard stem, good resistance to pests and diseases, and is suitable for local soil conditions.
Tam Coc rice fields are one of the five most beautiful rice fields in Vietnam, located peacefully along the poetic Ngo Dong River, surrounded by limestone mountains.
For generations, local people have created on those flooded fields. The total area of Tam Coc rice fields is about more than 18 hectares.
Tourists from all over the world flock to Tam Coc for the festival.
Rowing a boat on the rice fields for over 30 years, Mrs. Dinh Thi Khue is happy and excited every time the golden season comes. With her skillful feet steering the boat to take tourists to visit Tam Coc, Mrs. Khue remembers her childhood days.
At that time, Mrs. Khue rowed a boat with her mother to go to the fields. In Tam Coc, rice can only be grown once a year and harvested at the end of May and the beginning of June.
Instead of just living off rice, tourism has helped local people improve their lives and earn more income.
The warm-hearted farmer had become a local tour guide without realizing it. The boat glided gently on the Ngo Dong River, Mrs. Khue enthusiastically introduced each cave, relic, and beautiful photo spot to the tourists.
Tam Coc fields are a favorite destination for international tourists in Ninh Binh.
Coming to Tam Coc on a rainy afternoon at the end of May, Ms. Hong Hanh ( Hanoi ) enjoyed the peaceful scenery, listening to the sound of water and the gentle wind blowing through the fields.
"The previous times I went to Ninh Binh, I often went to Trang An, Bai Dinh Pagoda, Cuc Phuong forest... but this time we came here during the rice season so my whole family chose to go to Tam Coc.
Although the rice is still green, the peaceful and poetic scenery here is worth experiencing. When going by boat, people can ask the boatmen to show them beautiful photo spots along both sides of the river," Ms. Hanh shared.
