• People proactively vaccinate against dengue fever
  • Good control of dengue fever
  • Raising guppies to prevent dengue fever
  • Increasing cases of dengue fever

Accordingly, the Department of Health has organized inspection teams to urge localities to implement disease prevention and control work. In particular, it directs localities to closely monitor old outbreaks and high-risk areas to promptly prevent and control the disease. Strengthen surveillance at households, combine propaganda and instruct people to implement measures to kill larvae, kill mosquitoes, and clean the environment.

Spraying chemicals to kill mosquitoes to treat an outbreak in Giao Vam hamlet, Ly Van Lam ward.

To date, the central area of Ca Mau province has recorded more than 90 cases of dengue fever. Doctor Le Thi Tuyet Thu, Deputy Director of the Ca Mau Regional Medical Center, informed: "Currently, dengue fever cases tend to increase, so we have directed the ward health stations to closely monitor the disease, especially in places with old outbreaks. Coordinate with local authorities to review to detect outbreaks early and handle them thoroughly, not allowing the disease to spread widely."

Most recently, an outbreak occurred in Giao Vam Hamlet (Ly Van Lam Ward). Realizing that the epidemic situation was complicated and had the potential to spread quickly, the Medical Center coordinated with the Medical Station and local authorities to monitor, implement measures to kill mosquito larvae and spray chemicals to kill mosquitoes within a 200 meter radius around the outbreak area. At the same time, propagate and mobilize people to implement measures to prevent and control the epidemic.

Release guppies into water containers to kill mosquito larvae.

Mr. Nhan Van Dung, Deputy Secretary of the Party Cell and Head of Giao Vam Hamlet, said: “We closely coordinate with local health agencies to strengthen monitoring and propaganda for people about disease prevention awareness. To effectively prevent dengue fever, the initiative of each household is an important factor.”

Recognizing that dengue fever has been circulating and is at risk of spreading widely, since the beginning of 2025, the Nam Can Regional Medical Center has developed a plan, strengthened the Steering Committee and epidemic prevention and control teams at all levels to deploy to hamlets. Focus on communication work to raise people's awareness of dengue fever prevention in households, in schools and in the community. Build 3 rounds of community-based mosquito and larvae eradication campaigns and replicate proactive disease prevention models among the people.

Dr. Le Chi Nguyen, Director of the Nam Can Regional Medical Center, said: “In addition to monitoring, early detection and handling of outbreaks, since the beginning of the year, we have strengthened effective measures to prevent dengue fever such as: expanding the guppy fish farming model to kill mosquito larvae in households; strengthening propaganda work to help people raise awareness... Thanks to proactive measures to prevent and control the epidemic, dengue fever has basically been well controlled. Since the beginning of the year, the entire Nam Can region has recorded 11 cases of dengue fever, occurring sporadically in the communes.”

The Health sector and departments, branches, organizations, and local authorities of Giao Vam hamlet inspected the implementation of dengue fever prevention and control.

Mr. Vo Minh Linh, Chong My B hamlet, Nam Can commune, shared: “My family has young children so we are very concerned about the prevention and control of dengue fever. Recently, with the guidance of medical staff, my family has always maintained the guppy farming model. I release guppies into all water containers around the house. At the same time, I use a mosquito racket to kill mosquitoes, thanks to which the number of mosquitoes has significantly reduced and the disease has been prevented.”

Currently, dengue fever has been circulating all year round, especially during the rainy season, which is favorable for Aedes mosquitoes to breed, causing the risk of spreading the disease quickly. Therefore, the health sector recommends that people regularly take measures such as: covering all water containers, or releasing guppies to kill mosquito larvae; collecting and removing waste and tree holes where Aedes mosquitoes lay eggs; weekly environmental sanitation and house cleaning; sleeping under mosquito nets and wearing long-sleeved clothes to prevent mosquito bites; actively cooperating with the health sector in spraying chemicals to prevent epidemics; monitoring to detect diseases early so that they can be treated promptly at medical facilities.
