Adding 2 new expressways The Vietnam Road Administration has just submitted to the Ministry of Transport for approval the adjustment of the Road Network Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, including the addition of 2 new expressways: Ca Mau - Dat Mui and Quang Ngai - Kon Tum . Specifically, the Ca Mau - Dat Mui expressway is about 90km long, with a scale of 4 lanes, and the investment process after 2030. According to the Vietnam Road Administration, the inclusion of this expressway in the planning is to meet the forecast of increasing transportation demand; the locality has proactively researched and supplemented the provincial planning. The Department recommends that after the route is added, it should not be included in the North - South Eastern expressway system so as not to affect the goal of completing the North - South Eastern expressway by 2025.

The Quang Ngai - Kon Tum Expressway is about 136km long, with 4 lanes, and is scheduled to be built before 2030. According to the Vietnam Road Administration, the expressway is planned to maximize the advantages of the country, region, and locality. “Resolution No. 23 of the Politburo has determined that for the Northern Central Highlands sub-region (Gia Lai and Kon Tum provinces), eco-tourism areas and tourist areas associated with national parks and nature reserves will be formed. To implement this orientation, it is necessary to add an expressway connecting from the Eastern North-South expressway to tourist areas in the Kon Tum area. The People's Committee of Quang Ngai province has issued a document proposing to add the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum expressway to develop the potential of tourism land funds in the border area of ​​the two provinces, connecting Quang Ngai province with the Central Highlands provinces, as well as connecting with Laos at Bo Y border gate. Kon Tum and Quang Ngai localities have also proactively researched and added this route to the provincial planning,” informed the Vietnam Road Administration. The total planned length of expressways has increased. From the adjustment and addition of a number of expressways mentioned above, the total length of the expressway system has changed. The expressway network as planned has been approved by the Prime Minister from 41 routes with a total length of about 9,014km to 43 routes. The Northern region has 14 routes, the length of about 2,305km is increased to about 2,313km. The Central and Central Highlands regions have 10 routes, the length of about 1,431km is increased to 11 routes with a length of about 1,496km. The Southern region has 10 routes, the length of about 1,290km is increased to 11 routes with a length of about 1,380km. For the North - South expressway in the East from Huu Nghi border gate ( Lang Son ) to Ca Mau city (Ca Mau province), the length is about 2,063km, the scale from 4 to 10 lanes, the length remains the same but the scale is increased from 6 to 12 lanes. Thus, after adjusting and supplementing the expressways, the total planned length of expressways by 2050 is about 9,234km (an increase of about 220km compared to the previous plan). Of which, the routes with investment routes before 2030 are about 6,754km (an increase of about 633km), the routes with investment routes after 2030 are about 2,480km.
