Meritorious Artist Kim Tieu Long and singer Khanh An
In the context of the reformed theater gradually being narrowed by the wave of modern entertainment, the family of People's Artist Nguyen Thanh Tung - People's Artist Nguyen Manh Hung - singer Khanh An is a living proof of the perseverance in keeping the passion of the profession alive through three generations.
Khanh An follows in the family footsteps
People's Artist Nguyen Thanh Tung - a veteran artist of the Northern Cai Luong stage, stood out with the role of Admiral Le Ngan in The Case of a Princess (1990), won a Gold Medal at the National Festival.
After more than four decades of dedication, he still maintains the view: "Cai luong only loses its audience when the artists forget their roots. If they know how to tell stories and touch emotions, young people can still love the stage when the artists are serious about their profession. Watching my nephew and Meritorious Artist Kim Tieu Long sing and perform excerpts from "Han Mac Tu", I was very moved to see my nephew being loved by the audience."

Singer Khanh An
At the age of 75, People's Artist Nguyen Thanh Tung is happy to see his children and grandchildren continue on the stage.
People's Artist Nguyen Manh Hung, his son, is also one of the prominent names of the next generation. Growing up in a space filled with the sound of instruments and songs, Manh Hung soon understood that the stage profession is not just a job, but the bloodline of national culture. He always struggles to find ways to renew Cai Luong, bringing a contemporary breath to the traditional language:
"It is impossible to completely recreate what our ancestors did. The job of the next generation is to maintain that spirit, but tell it in a way that still moves today's audience," said Meritorious Artist Kim Tieu Long.
Khanh An – youthful colors of tradition
Khanh An – the third generation – has artistic blood in her veins but has chosen her own path: folk music – bolero. However, in many performances, she still skillfully combines bolero and vọng cổ, showing the singing technique and emotions typical of someone born into a family of “three generations of artists”.
"I don't choose my career, my career chooses me" - Khanh An once confided. That's why, even though she came from many modern music competitions, she still respects the old values, the vọng cổ melodies taught by her father and grandfather since she was little.
When she sang the role of Mai Dinh in the excerpt "Han Mac Tu", the audience was moved to tears because her voice was so deep and full of narrative.

Singer Khanh An
Khanh An's appearance in major programs such as the shows with Meritorious Artist Kim Tieu Long and Tuan Vu in Hanoi and Hai Phong has shown a generation of young artists who know how to connect tradition and the masses - both pure and fresh, while preserving the "soul" of reformed opera.
In the context of many traditional theaters facing difficulties, the story of three generations in the family of People's Artist Nguyen Thanh Tung is a beautiful symbol of perseverance and loyalty to the national art. They not only "preserve the profession" but also spread the love of reformed opera in their own way: the father staged plays, the son sought innovation, the young grandson breathed new life into the scene with his bolero and vọng cổ singing voice. His appearance on stage the night his grandson performed in Hanoi was a very beautiful image, leaving many memories for the capital's audience.
