Lively rap music video celebrating 30 years of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations

Part of a year-long commemorative series, the MV offers a fresh, youth-focused look at a diplomatic milestone that shaped the course of both countries.

On December 1, the U.S. Mission to Vietnam released “Never Before,” a music video (MV) featuring rapper Suboi to mark the 30th anniversary of bilateral relations.

“Never Before” recreates important milestones in Vietnam-US relations while emphasizing the younger generation as the most vivid proof of today’s partnership.

Through Suboi’s signature rap voice and contemporary visual style, the MV conveys a message to young people, honoring imagination, aspiration and global vision, while framing the celebration as a journey continued by the creativity and ambition of young people themselves.

By charting the past three decades, the MV represents the progress the two countries have made and the shared promise for the future, serving as both a tribute to the enduring partnership and an invitation to continue building on the next stage through innovation, connection and cultural exchange.

Ambassador Marc E. Knapper expressed his excitement at being able to connect with youth through creativity: “Suboi’s contribution helps tell the story of our partnership in a contemporary form, affirming the important role of youth in shaping our shared future.”

The artistic direction of “Never Before” combines modern rap beats with touches of traditional Vietnamese instruments, creating a style that is both contemporary and imbued with identity. This approach brings warmth to a subject that is often presented in a formal manner, allowing the energy of hip-hop to blend with the elegance and pride of Vietnamese culture.

Suboi expressed her honor to contribute to this commemorative activity: “The MV 'Never Before' conveys the spirit, energy and aspiration of today's young generation of Vietnam.
