On December 1, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department (Ministry of National Defense), the opening ceremony of the 2025 gender military advisor training course supported by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and Canada took place.
Taking place from December 1-12, 2025, the training course will have the participation of trainees from Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Senegal, Zambia, Mongolia, Thailand, India, Morocco, Malaysia, South Africa, Bangladesh, Nepal.
The activity aims to contribute to equipping officers of the Vietnam People's Army and partner countries with necessary knowledge and professional skills within the framework of the Canadian Military Training and Cooperation Program (MTCP) to be ready to effectively carry out their duties as military gender advisors at United Nations peacekeeping missions; improve the professional capacity of Vietnamese lecturers in teaching gender issues in United Nations peacekeeping operations; and contribute to strengthening the friendship and practical cooperation between Vietnam, Canada and international partners in the field of United Nations peacekeeping.
In his opening speech, Major General Pham Manh Thang, Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department, emphasized that during the process of preparing and deploying forces to participate in United Nations peacekeeping missions over the past 11 years, Vietnam has always received enthusiastic and valuable support and assistance from the United Nations and Canada, especially in the field of training and capacity building.
This training course on gender military advisors, supported by UNITAR and Canada, is yet another vivid demonstration of the growing cooperation in the field of United Nations peacekeeping.
According to Major General Pham Manh Thang, the training course is also of special significance as this is the first time UNITAR, Canada and Vietnam have co-organized an intensive training course on gender military advisors in UN peacekeeping operations, with the participation of officers from many countries in the region and around the world along with UN experts and lecturers.
In particular, in the context of Vietnam's increasingly deep participation in United Nations peacekeeping activities with an increase in both the quantity and quality of female soldiers, the coordination of the training course has contributed to demonstrating Vietnam's strong commitment and response to the United Nations Women, Peace and Security Agenda.
Expressing sincere thanks for the support of UNITAR and Canada to the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department to organize the training course, the Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department hopes to continue to receive support from international partners in the coming time; at the same time, expressing his belief that, on the basis of good cooperation and with careful and elaborate preparation, along with the determination and highest efforts of all staff, lecturers, coordinators and students, the training course will be a great success./.
