On the morning of June 8, Dr. Vo Ngoc Cuong, Director of Binh Chanh District Hospital (HCMC), said that in recent days, the hospital has continuously activated the red alert procedure to save many critical traffic accident cases at the southwestern gateway of the city.
Surgeons save patient's life in "life-threatening" condition.
The latest case is Ms. HTMN (56 years old), who was brought to the emergency room by locals in a state of multiple injuries after a traffic accident, with cold hands and feet, difficult to detect pulse, and low blood pressure. Ultrasound results showed a large amount of fluid in the abdomen, internal bleeding due to closed abdominal trauma. The hospital activated the internal red alert and performed emergency surgery.
According to MSc. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hien, Deputy Head of General Surgery Department, Binh Chanh District Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City (the person on duty for the surgery), the patient suffered a 20cm tear in the abdominal wall, a tear in the small intestine mesentery and left colon, and blood vessel damage causing necrosis of the small intestine. Realizing the complexity of the injury, the surgical team had to seek professional support from a higher-level hospital. Immediately afterwards, doctors from People's Hospital 115 arrived to assist in saving the difficult case. The patient is currently stable, temporarily past the critical stage.
"During the 4-hour surgery, I never dared to take my eyes off the monitor. There were times when the patient's vital signs worsened, and his blood pressure dropped sharply despite using high doses of vasopressors and blood transfusions during surgery. There was a time when the whole team thought they had lost the patient. I really never wanted to see a patient in this situation," Dr. Cao Thuy Tien, Head of the anesthesia team, recalled.
