Whales hunting in Nha Trang Bay on the morning of August 7 - Photo: VAN PHU
On August 7, Mr. Tran Van Phu - head of Nha Trang tourist wharf management department (under Nha Trang Bay Management Board) - said that on the same morning, in the sea near Hon Mun island, a whale appeared and continuously opened its mouth to hunt for prey.
This is the third time in the past 2 weeks that whales have appeared hunting in Nha Trang Bay. The whales' appearance has delighted many tourists as they witness this wonderful natural spectacle.
According to Mr. Phu, this is no longer an isolated phenomenon, the recent consecutive appearance of whales in Nha Trang Bay is attracting attention from the community, tourists and researchers.
"This may reflect a marked improvement in the marine environment, more abundant food sources, and reasonable control of fishing activities.
The fact that whales continuously appear and hunt in Nha Trang Bay is not only a strange thing but also a good sign showing that the marine environment is reviving," said Mr. Phu.
Previously, Nha Trang Bay Management Board issued a notice advising organizations and individuals operating in the sea area, requiring them to keep a minimum distance of 100m when detecting whales.
The committee recommends that all residents and tourists do not chase or block whales to observe them, limit noise and strictly comply with regulations on protecting rare marine life in the reserve.
