After the incident where the Vietnamese youth table tennis team (under the management of the Hanoi National Sports Training Center, but living and training at the My Dinh National Sports Complex) were not provided with adequate nutrition and had to eat meals lacking in nutrients compared to the standard of 320,000 VND/day prescribed by the Ministry of Finance , the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Department of Physical Training and Sports have stepped in to verify the incident and investigate the responsibilities of the parties involved.
The Department of Sports and Physical Training has established a disciplinary council to verify the responsibility of the collectives and individuals involved in the incident, in order to issue disciplinary sanctions such as review and reprimand. At the same time, the administrative units of the Department of Sports and Physical Training, including the Hanoi National Sports Training Center, have also established an independent disciplinary council to investigate the incident and propose disciplinary sanctions for the individuals and organizations involved.
The athletes' meals were nutritious after returning to the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi to practice and live.
Punishments for individuals involved in the case have been determined. For the table tennis team managed by the Hanoi National Sports Training Center, the disciplinary board assessed that the monitor and the head of the department did not fulfill their duties well. Both received disciplinary reprimands.
On the side of the Department of Sports and Physical Training, because the Department of Sports and Physical Training's specialist in charge of table tennis, in the management and consulting work to establish the team, also did not complete his functions and tasks, so he also received a disciplinary reprimand.
Previously, the person in charge of the kitchen of the Vietnamese youth table tennis team at the My Dinh National Sports Complex was fired and transferred to another department.
The specialized department with the function and task of managing the Vietnam youth table tennis team of the Department of Sports and Physical Training will temporarily no longer perform the function of managing this team. Mr. Bui Xuan Ha and his assistants who were in charge of the youth table tennis team at the time of the incident have also parted ways with the team.
In early November, the Vietnamese youth table tennis team was brought to the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi to practice. According to Thanh Nien Newspaper, since moving to the center, the athletes' meals have become more nutritious and varied.
According to state regulations, each athlete receives 320,000 VND for food/day, including 300,000 VND/day for 3 meals, and the remaining 20,000 VND/day, after the teams request, will be transferred directly to the athlete's account to buy drinks.
The incident involving the Vietnamese youth table tennis team was mentioned at the Sports Industry Conference on December 21. Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung said: "The Ministry has handled the meal issue for the athletes of the table tennis team. And this is an example for the entire sports industry."
