Hospitals in Dong Nai 'invest generously' in infertility treatment

(DN) - Faced with the increasing infertility problem, many hospitals in Dong Nai province have invested in developing techniques and human resources for this field.

In addition to the in-house team of doctors, hospitals also invite infertility experts from leading hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City to directly examine and treat patients, transfer techniques, or send medical teams, doctors, and technicians to study at major infertility hospitals.

The need for infertility treatment is increasing.

Having worked in the field of infertility for many years, Master - Specialist II Doctor Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology - Infertility, Au Co Hospital, said: Infertility among couples is increasing. On average, each week, Au Co Hospital has about 100 couples coming to examine about infertility and slow pregnancy. The good news is that young couples, after about 3-4 months of marriage but still have not had children, have also proactively gone to see a doctor about infertility because of concerns. In these cases, doctors will advise and examine reproductive health to prepare for the upcoming journey of pregnancy and childbirth.

“When young couples “worry early” and go for an early check-up, detecting infertility early will help make the journey to having children less difficult. On the contrary, many older couples (after 35 years old) or those who already have 1 child want to have a second child but delay, only coming for a check-up after a long time without having children. This is also the reason why the number of cases of infertility examination and treatment has increased in recent years at the hospital,” said Dr. Ha.

Not only in urban areas, even in rural areas, couples with the need to examine and treat infertility and sterility are also increasing. Having been married for only 8 months, Mr. THP and his wife (husband 32 years old, wife 26 years old), residing in Long Khanh ward, went to see a doctor for infertility. Mr. P. said: Both husband and wife wanted to have children right after getting married. But after waiting for several months, my wife and I still had no "good news", I felt quite worried so I decided to go see a doctor soon.

Specialist Doctor 2 Nguyen Thi Lan Phuong, Head of General Planning Department, Long Khanh Regional General Hospital, shared: The reality of obstetrics and gynecology examination and treatment at the hospital shows that many couples in rural areas such as Cam My, Xuan Loc, Dau Giay... have a high demand for infertility examination and treatment.

Master - Specialist Doctor 2 Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology - Infertility, Au Co Hospital, said: Statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO) show that Vietnam is one of the countries with the highest infertility rate in the world. It is estimated that each year there are about 1 million infertile couples. The causes of infertility come from both men and women with equal proportions.

Infertility examination and treatment is no longer reserved for people over 35 years old. Many young couples, after 6 months to 1 year of marriage but still not pregnant, have accessed infertility examination services. However, not everyone has the conditions to travel far, to hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City for initial examination.

“I met a couple who fell into depression and anxiety because they had not had children for several years. Partly because of the cost of treatment, partly because of the long distance travel, which greatly affected the work of both husband and wife, they also “postponed” going to see a doctor for infertility treatment. The longer the time, the lower the chance of treatment, the more stressed they were to have children. I think they need a medical facility near home, not having to “give up time and work” too much to travel for treatment will help them reduce the pressure,” Dr. Phuong confided.

According to Dr. Phuong, in reality, infertility treatment depends on each specific case. Some people only need to do basic techniques to succeed in the first 1-2 times, on the contrary, some people have to wait many times, many years to have "good news".

Strong investment in infertility treatment

Since September 2025, Long Khanh Regional General Hospital has deployed a clinic and techniques for infertility treatment. According to Dr. Lan Phuong, the hospital has a team of more than 10 doctors and technicians who can perform infertility treatment techniques for both men and women. Accordingly, the hospital performs male medical examinations, male medical tests and techniques for injecting sperm into the uterus (semen analysis, sperm washing and techniques for injecting sperm into the uterus).

“Initially, we are providing consultation and treatment for mild cases of weak sperm in men, ovulation disorders in women, or cases of infertility of unknown cause. Patients will undergo sperm injection first. If the results are not satisfactory, the patient must undergo in vitro fertilization (IVF), and we will transfer to a higher level. According to the roadmap, in a few years, we will implement IVF techniques” - Dr. Lan Phuong shared.

At Au Co Hospital, Mr. Ly Vu Quoc Bao, Executive Director, said: Since its inception, more than 10 years ago, Au Co Hospital has focused on infertility treatment. The hospital has invested synchronously in facilities, equipment and specialized human resources for this field. Currently, the Infertility Department has deployed almost all treatment techniques for both men and women.

For more specialized techniques such as egg retrieval, IVF, egg freezing - embryo freezing and embryo transfer, Au Co Hospital has professionally cooperated with prestigious IVF centers in Ho Chi Minh City. In which, the hospital's doctors directly monitor and perform the procedure with patients at partner facilities, ensuring continuity in treatment and optimizing results.

Mr. Bao shared: The hospital is in the process of developing an investment project for the Infertility Support Center (IVF Center), aiming to complete the entire closed infertility treatment process right in Dong Nai province. This center will be designed according to international standards including: ISO standard embryology lab, clean room system, cold storage area for embryos - eggs - sperm, and modern genetic analysis equipment (PGT, IMSI, ICSI).

“Our goal is not only to help couples in the Dong Nai area and neighboring areas to be able to receive effective treatment locally, but also to reduce costs, save time, and ensure continuous monitoring by the primary care physician. When examining and treating patients near home, patients can still go to work immediately after the examination, without greatly affecting their work,” said Mr. Bao.

Faced with the increasing demand for examination and treatment of infertility, hospitals in the province have made plans to invest in this field. Specialties such as Andrology, Endocrinology, Obstetrics and Gynecology... have also been invested in, thereby closely coordinating with each other to bring about comprehensive treatment results for each infertility case.
