Google Photos will soon have an option to skip backing up RAW photos.
RAW images are known for their superior image quality, making them a top choice for photography enthusiasts. However, the enormous size of this image format places a heavy burden on Google Photos' storage space, which is not free.
With this new feature, users will be able to choose to back up only JPEG or HEIF formatted images, which are significantly smaller in size, thus freeing up considerable storage space.
This feature is especially useful for Samsung smartphone users, who can save photos in both RAW and JPEG/HEIF formats simultaneously. Users can back up JPEG/HEIF photos to Google Photos for sharing, while keeping RAW photos on their device for professional editing.
Currently, this feature has been discovered in the latest version of the Pixel Camera app. However, users hope that Google will soon expand this feature to other Android devices through a Google Photos or Google Play System update.
The feature to skip RAW image backups promises to bring significant flexibility and storage savings to Google Photos users, especially photography enthusiasts.
