As many areas are suffering the consequences of natural disasters, an urgent issue is to accurately identify people in need of assistance. In this situation, two young engineers have developed a real-time rescue map to help people in areas affected by storms and floods find help faster.

The website thongtincuuho.org acts as an online rescue map to help people access support faster.

The map displays rescue points in real time, based on data posted by people on social networks or sent in. The development team will collect data from many different sources, such as news groups on Facebook, collaborators, audio from radio, and use AI to filter relevant information, assess the situation and display it on the map visually.

The Rescue Information map interface is very intuitive.

Sharing with Tri Thuc - Znews , programmer Tu Tat Huan, co-developer of the application, said that this product was completed in just 4 hours, from the night of October 7 to the early morning of October 8. Accompanying Huan in the development is AI product development expert Nguyen Thi Mai Anh.

According to Mr. Huan, AI is considered a powerful assistant to help process large volumes of chaotic data, helping to automate about 80% of the process. In addition, to ensure the accuracy of the location and summary content, the moderation team will participate in the remaining 20%.

Therefore, users only need to comment on any rescue-related post on the project's social media account, the system will automatically find, pull, classify and display on the map. People can also send rescue requests by filling out the form directly on the website, including address, specific status and update time, helping the rescue team to filter and sort by urgency.

Behind the idea is a story of chance. During the storm Bualoi, Mr. Huan was stuck in traffic for 5 hours on Tran Duy Hung Street ( Hanoi ) when traveling from the company to home. He only knew about the flooding situation in the surrounding areas after watching it on social media.

This experience sparked the idea of creating an application that would help people keep track of traffic-related news updates. With the knowledge he had, he turned on his computer and started coding the first lines of code right on the traffic jam, which laid the foundation for the birth of the flood notification application VGO (originally called VNTraffic).

“My wife and I live 25 km from the city center and she drives herself to work every day. Every time there is a traffic jam, I often ask my wife to turn on the radio to update the traffic situation, but sometimes the information we need to hear is already announced by the announcer,” he said.

A week later, on the night of October 7, Mr. Huan and Ms. Mai Anh discovered many calls for help from people in Thai Nguyen. The two came up with the idea of building Rescue Information based on VGO's own technical system. Thanks to that, the platform could be launched in just 4 hours that night.

Although the two products were completed in a short time, the development team still tried to complete them to meet the needs of the people. The platform has received support from CloudAZ and Google Cloud in terms of infrastructure for the project, to continue maintaining the system, as well as many programmers and collaborators in the process of collecting information.

Since October 27, the website has supported the central regions from Hue to Ha Tinh. According to the update on November 6, the platform has expanded to more provinces in the Central Highlands, such as Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Gia Lai, to support people before storm No. 13.
