Specifically, the AI camera system is deployed with many modern features such as 360-degree scanning, clearly identifying objects, phenomena, and subjects at a distance of 500-700m; operating in all weather conditions and harsh environments.
Hanoi Traffic Police Department cooperated with units to install AI cameras at the Pham Hung - Khuat Duy Tien intersection.
The AI camera system will process and analyze video right at the camera (processing at the edge) of traffic violations as well as security and order behaviors and send it to the monitoring center to read the data and compare it with the system's database; helping to increase the accuracy of detecting traffic violations, security and order situations, reduce latency and reduce server system resources at the center, easily expanding the number of cameras.
AI cameras will automatically measure traffic at intersections and send real-time information to automatically control traffic light cycles in real time, optimizing traffic flow at intersections, reducing congestion and red light waiting time for vehicles. Along with that, this system will automatically detect traffic violations and behaviors related to security and order.
Technical staff install AI camera. During the installation process, the authorities re-check the transmission line and wire system to adjust the camera angle to suit each route and intersection. Images from a newly installed AI camera are transmitted to the inspection device. The technician continues to adjust the AI camera direction as required. A total of 1,873 AI cameras were installed in this phase at key intersections across the city. These AI cameras will officially come into operation from December.
According to the CAND Newspaper's reporter, AI cameras are also being installed on some routes such as Nguyen Chi Thanh, Xuan Thuy, Nguyen Phong Sac, Le Van Luong - Khuat Duy Tien, Khuat Duy Tien - Tran Duy Hung, Xa Dan - Pham Ngoc Thach, Au Co - Lac Long Quan, Pham Van Dong, Pham Hung, Ho Tung Mau. Each column is equipped with 2 AI cameras in two opposite directions, at intersections with high traffic density, 4 camera clusters will be installed pointing in four directions, helping to cover the entire area.
Lieutenant Colonel Dao Viet Long, Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Department of Hanoi City Police, said that the operation of the AI camera system in December 2025 is an important step in the digital transformation roadmap of the capital's Traffic Police force. Compared to conventional surveillance camera systems, AI cameras have the ability to analyze and process images right on the device, helping to quickly and accurately detect violations of traffic order and safety as well as situations related to security and order in the area.
"The AI camera system also helps identify license plates, supports the tracking of vehicles related to security and order incidents, traffic accidents, contributing to building smart cities, safe, civilized and modern traffic," said Lieutenant Colonel Dao Viet Long.
Close-up of the newly installed high-resolution AI camera device, all details such as faces, license plates, and high-speed moving objects can be clearly recorded. From there, the authorities can easily record, detect, and strictly handle violations. The image signals are transmitted to the Hanoi Traffic Command Center (Traffic Command and Traffic Light Control Team, Traffic Police Department, Hanoi City Police). According to the Master Plan on centralized camera surveillance system management approved by the Hanoi People's Committee, the city plans to install more than 40,000 cameras, including more than 16,000 cameras serving state management of traffic safety, environment and urban order. The camera installation will be deployed in the period 2025-2030.
According to a report by the Traffic Police Department of Hanoi City Police, from October 1 to 10, the traffic surveillance camera system managed and operated by the unit detected and recorded 41 cases of vehicle violations, including cars and motorbikes.
