Can Tho: Urgently resolve, remove and handle pending cases

At the meeting, Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy Nguyen Huy Tien said that Can Tho has about 4,000 criminal cases and nearly 30,000 civil cases each year, which is a locality with a relatively high case rate in the whole country. The city needs to urgently resolve, remove and handle backlog cases so as not to affect the legitimate rights and interests of the people. The Supreme People's Procuracy will pay special attention to the work of arranging staff and supplementing the missing staff for the Can Tho City People's Procuracy to successfully complete its tasks in the locality.

Regarding the physical facilities of the headquarters in the city, the Institute will return the headquarters that are no longer in use, and at the same time, it hopes that Can Tho city will arrange suitable land locations in terms of area and location for the industry to invest in and build standard, spacious regional headquarters; and hopes that the city will support the cost of investing in machinery to serve the digital transformation work in the field of prosecution so that the City People's Procuracy can successfully complete its tasks in the area.

At the meeting, Mr. Le Quang Tung, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, said that he will directly direct the internal affairs agencies to resolutely carry out specific tasks such as quickly handling outstanding cases and overcoming limitations in the past time to strive to complete the tasks well in 2025 and the following years.

The Can Tho City Party Committee will also soon implement Resolution No. 205/2025/QH15 of the National Assembly on piloting the People's Procuracy initiating civil lawsuits to protect the civil rights of vulnerable groups or protect public interests. This is a political task of a very humane nature, so the Can Tho City Party Committee will soon issue a directive of the City Party Committee to organize the implementation of this content.

According to the report of the People's Procuracy of Can Tho City, after the merger, the management area expanded, the security and order situation became more complicated. In 2025, the People's Procuracy at two levels exercised the right to prosecute and prosecute 2,570 new cases, with 3,742 defendants.
