According to Reuters, the Canadian government has banned the use of the Chinese messaging app WeChat and the Russian antivirus software Kaspersky on government mobile devices for security and privacy reasons.
These apps will be removed from devices provided by the Canadian government, and users will also be blocked from downloading them.
Chair of the Finance Council, Anita Anand, confirmed that privacy and security content are at high risk of being compromised when using these applications. She stated that the decision to remove and block the WeChat app, along with Kaspersky, aims to ensure the Canadian government's network and data are securely protected and aligns with the approach of international partners.
