Da Nang Port and Savannakhet Special Economic Zone, Laos sign strategic cooperation agreement

DNVN - On October 10, at Tien Sa Port Enterprise, Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company signed a new strategic cooperation memorandum of understanding with the Management Board of Savannakhet Special Economic Zone (Laos).

At the working session on October 10, Da Nang Port and the Savannakhet Special Economic Zone Authority (Savannakhet Province, Laos) exchanged and updated information on economic and logistics development. At the same time, they reviewed the process of sustainable cooperation since the two sides signed the first strategic cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU) on July 31, 2015.

Since then, Da Nang Port and Savannakhet Special Economic Zone have been making continuous efforts to realize the vision of connecting cross-border logistics supply chains. Da Nang Port, with its important maritime gateway position in the Central region of Vietnam, has played a key role in supporting Lao enterprises in transporting import and export goods, especially transit goods through the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC).

With its outstanding investment and development in IT, Da Nang Port affirms that the development of this relationship always goes hand in hand with efforts to improve technology and optimize processes. Advanced port information systems, modern EDI solutions and streamlined procedures have contributed to shortening customs clearance times and reducing logistics costs for goods from Laos, especially from Savannakhet - a vibrant economic center on the EWEC.

After a decade of building trust and developing joint activities, on October 10, Dr. Thanongsai Soukkhamthat - Director of Savannakhet Special Economic Zone and Deputy General Director of Da Nang Port Le Quang Duc represented the two sides to officially sign a new strategic cooperation MOU, raising the cooperation commitment to a higher level.

The new MOU emphasizes that the two sides agree to facilitate each other and give priority to enterprises in the Savannakhet Special Economic Zone (Laos) to import and export goods through Da Nang Port in Vietnam. Da Nang Port reduces the unit price for lifting/lowering containers (port yard => car or vice versa) according to the current tariff of Da Nang Port for enterprises operating in the Savannakhet Special Economic Zone; gives priority to wharves and warehouses at Da Nang Port for goods of enterprises in the Savannakhet Special Economic Zone.

On the contrary, the Savannakhet Special Economic Zone authorities have increased the promotion of information and policies of Da Nang Port to businesses in the special economic zone; requested businesses in the special economic zone to import and export goods through Da Nang Port; connected information between Da Nang Port and businesses in the special economic zone...

Expressing his joy and confidence in the outstanding development potential that the new MOU brings, Dr. Thanongsai Soukkhamthat emphasized that Da Nang Port is an indispensable strategic partner, helping Savannakhet reach out to the open sea.

Mr. Le Quang Duc affirmed that Da Nang Port is strongly committed to promoting this relationship, turning the Port into an indispensable link in the logistics chain of Laos in general and Savannakhet in particular.

According to Mr. Le Quang Duc, the signing of a new strategic cooperation MOU between Da Nang Port and Savannakhet Special Economic Zone not only strengthens the bilateral relationship but also contributes significantly to realizing the vision of a dynamic and effective EWEC. The event shows that the cooperation between Vietnam and Laos is constantly being strengthened and developed, bringing practical economic benefits to both countries and the whole region.

Da Nang Port, as one of the leading modern seaports in Vietnam, will continue to invest in infrastructure, technology and human resources to be ready to meet all the needs of partners, especially from Laos, consolidating its position as an ideal logistics destination for import and export goods in the region.
