Regarding the taxi fare fraud case at Tan Son Nhat International Airport on June 20, on the afternoon of June 26, Tan Son Nhat International Airport sent a dispatch to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport and the Southern Airports Authority, stating: In addition to temporarily suspending operations at the airport for the two violating units, Saigon Taxi Transport Company Limited and Saigon Tourist Transport Joint Stock Company from 0:00 on June 22, these two units are required to have a plan to correct the violations within 15 days.
Specifically, re-check all vehicles registered to operate at the Port, re-inspect all fare meters on the vehicles according to the regulations of the competent authorities and report the results to the Port. At the same time, review the entire list and history of drivers, ensure that no drivers from other transport units that have been fired are recruited, and send the list of drivers to the Port.
Based on the results of the remediation, within the first 15 days of resumption of operations, the unit must commit to daily reporting on the status of vehicle and driver compliance before operating to pick up passengers at the Port.
In addition, Tan Son Nhat International Airport has requested all passenger transport business units at the Port to strictly comply with contract regulations and rectify the operations of employees at the Port.
In addition, to strengthen the management of transportation activities at the Port, especially to resolve the situation of price fraud, price gouging, soliciting customers, illegal vehicles, etc., Tan Son Nhat International Airport requests functional units such as the Department of Transport, Southern Airport Authority, Tan Son Nhat International Airport Police Station to support the Port in strengthening inspections, especially strictly handling the situation of fare meter fraud according to the law.
Also on the afternoon of June 26, the Traffic Inspectorate sent a report to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport on the results of inspections and handling of violations related to taxis in the city.
Accordingly, in the first 6 months of 2023, the Department of Transport Inspectorate discovered and recorded 21 cases of administrative violations related to taxi operations in the city, with a total fine of more than 138 million VND.
In particular, at Tan Son Nhat airport, 14 violations were detected and recorded, with fines totaling more than 134 million VND. Notably, there were 5 cases of installing taxi meters incorrectly, driving taxis without taxi meters, etc.
