More than 2,000 workdays supporting the reinforcement of eroded coastlines
Army joins in reinforcing coastal erosion |
On October 26, we were present at the coast of Phu Thuan commune and witnessed more than 150 officers and soldiers, including regular soldiers, militia and self-defense forces, coordinating with local people, along with many excavators and dump trucks, digging and filling thousands of sandbags, and reinforcing coastal erosion in Thuan An ward ( Hue city) and Phu Thuan commune (Phu Vang district).
Private First Class Hoang Duy Phong, a soldier of Company 1, Battalion 1, Regiment 6, Provincial Military Command shared: Despite the unfavorable weather, with rain and big waves, our brothers coordinated with more than 300 people from various forces and local people to urgently overcome the coastal erosion incident. We are very happy to contribute a part of our youth to repel and mitigate natural disasters for the people. We will continue to support the locality until we successfully complete the task of reinforcing the safety of the coast.
Due to the consecutive impacts of natural disasters, heavy rains, strong winds at sea, big waves, high tides, and rising water levels, serious erosion has occurred along the coastline of about 1km, 70-100m inland. The severely eroded section, about 300m long, is located on the border between Phu Thuan commune and Thuan An ward, destroying the sidewalk and knocking down rows of poplar trees along the internal road of the beach area. The area of erosion continues to grow rapidly, expanding in length and deepening inland, threatening to wash away the internal road of the beach and posing a great risk of affecting people's businesses.

Currently, the forces are continuing to coordinate to reinforce at the vulnerable points, preventing deep erosion to protect infrastructure works as well as ensure the safety of the people.
