The Ministry of Public Security said that to carry out the act, criminals collect images and phone numbers of people from websites or social network accounts.

The subjects often target victims who are people with economic and social conditions, including leaders of the provincial People's Committee, departments, branches, etc. Then, the subjects use portraits and photos with the faces of individuals and then combine them into images with sensitive, nude, and obscene content.

Next, the subjects used junk SIM cards to send messages to the victim's phone number to threaten and ask the victim to transfer money.

If the victim does not comply with the request, the subjects will post the edited images on social networking sites to defame, insult honor and dignity, and cause bad public opinion. In the messages sent to the victims, the subjects often ask the victims to contact them directly via email to easily threaten the victims and erase the traces.

The Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention of the Ministry of Public Security recommends that people limit sharing personal and family information, which can be exploited by criminals to commit crimes.

At the same time, people absolutely do not transfer money according to the requests of the subjects when threatened. In case of detecting signs of extortion, property should contact the nearest police agency for assistance.
