Russia-Ukraine war today December 5, 2024: Ukraine's door to NATO membership has closed when Donald Trump's working group rejected Kiev's request?
The Wall Street Journal, citing political sources in Washington, reported that the working group of US President-elect Donald Trump, during negotiations with the Chief of Staff of the Ukrainian President, Andrey Ermak, spoke out against Ukraine becoming a member of NATO.
It should be noted that Donald Trump's special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, supports the efforts of the current US President Joe Biden administration to quickly transfer weapons to Ukraine, arguing that this will give Trump an advantage over Russia in negotiations to resolve future conflicts.
At the same time, Mr. Trump's working group showed little interest in proposing that Ukraine become a member of the North Atlantic Alliance - NATO, an organization that President Zelensky called an important security guarantee.

Earlier, it became known that Andrei Ermak met with representatives of the US President-elect with the participation of Trump's future national security advisers, Mike Waltz and Keith Kellogg.
The defense line at Velyka Novosilka collapsed
The Military Summary channel reported that Moscow forces had breached the enemy's defenses along the Sukhi Yaly River and taken control of several key villages, disrupting supply lines to the Ukrainian army (AFU) in the Uspenivka redoubt and creating the possibility of a complete encirclement of the area.
The Russian army made another breakthrough in the direction of Velyka Novosilka. The geography confirmed that the Russian units were in Blahodatne, south of the town. The settlement was basically about to change hands. According to Ukrainian sources, the AFU’s logistics were also more difficult, as the supply lines were all within range of Russian fire.
The situation for Kiev forces in Uspenivka has deteriorated sharply after successful Russian military raids in the villages of Sukhi Yali and Kostiantynpolske, which isolated the area.
Meanwhile, Kurakhove is also at risk of being surrounded after Moscow forces launched an offensive in the northern part of the city, in the village of Terny. This development could allow the Russians to gain full control of the city for further attacks.
In the Kupyansk direction, after the Russian side established a bridgehead north of the Oskil River, the AFU launched a counterattack on Novomlynsk and fought fiercely there.
Chasov Yar will have the same fate as Bakhmut
Readovka channel reported that the Russian side has carried out a series of successful breakthroughs in the area north of Chasov Yar.
Specifically, in the area of Chasov Yar, Russian soldiers are fiercely clashing with the AFU in the city. The AFU clings to the ruins of the factory in the city center, in addition, Russian military units break through outside the southern sub-districts.
The AFU attempted to flank the southern part of the spearhead and attempt to cut off this line of attack. The AFU's aim was to try to hold the city as long as possible and draw Russia into a bloody street fight.
However, the AFU could hardly do this without focusing its efforts on stopping the ongoing attacks of the 98th Guards Airborne Division.
The AFU defense line – running from the northern sub-districts to a large clay mine and the surrounding forest – was weakened by the lack of troops. As a result, the Russian airborne assault quickly captured half of the clay mine and forced the Ukrainian units to retreat to prepared positions in the forest north of Chasov Yar.
However, the new scenario is even worse for AFU because in this area there are many lowlands, hills, forests, which obstruct the view and make it difficult to use defensive fire, and UAVs are even more difficult to penetrate the dense vegetation. Therefore, the Russian shock troops, after penetrating the first line of defense, are now ready to develop their achievements in the north of the city.
In the future, the capture of the industrial quarries would give the Russians an opportunity to launch an offensive against the northern sub-districts of Chasov Yar. If this happens, the AFU would have to withdraw from the southern flank to support them or else be attacked until they were forced to retreat.
The industrial zone is a pre-built fortified area that houses the entire defense system of Chasov Yar, and the AFU's loss of this stronghold would lead to the fall of the city.
