Vietnam's volleyball team defeated Thailand for the second time.
Yesterday (July 18th), the Vietnamese men's volleyball team played a very good match against the Thai team in the second leg of the Southeast Asian Volleyball Championship (SEA V.League) held in Indonesia. Thailand is the reigning SEA V.League champion and also the gold medalist from the first leg a week ago in the Philippines. In that leg, the Thai team only lost one match, against the Vietnamese team. In the rematch in the second leg, Coach Tran Dinh Tien's players once again proved to be a formidable opponent. Pham Quoc Du, Nguyen Ngoc Thuan, and Nguyen Van Quoc Duy were three players who performed impressively, helping the Vietnamese team take the lead twice against the Thai team. Both sets were won with convincing margins. However, the resilience of the Thai team was demonstrated at the right moment, with two successful comebacks to equalize the score at 2-2. Nguyen Ngoc Thuan and his teammates played brilliantly in the decisive fifth set, ultimately defeating Thailand with a final score of 3-2.

Bich Thuy shines brightly.
Also yesterday, middle blocker Tran Thi Bich Thuy left her mark in the semi-final of the Shanghai Future Stars international friendly volleyball tournament, even though the Vietnamese women's volleyball team lost 2-3 to the Netherlands U21 team. Facing an opponent superior in physique and employing a modern playing style that put pressure right from the serve, the Vietnamese team faltered. This exposed weaknesses such as loose defense, numerous first-pass errors, and a passive approach to attacking coordination.
In a stalemate, middle blocker Tran Thi Bich Thuy, who had previously played in the Korean volleyball league, consistently excelled with her quick attacks. Bich Thuy's explosive performance boosted the confidence of the Vietnamese girls. This led Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh, Nguyen Thi Phuong, and Nguyen Thi Uyen to be more daring in their attacks instead of playing safely and not putting much pressure on their opponents. As a result, the Vietnamese team "tear apart" the Dutch U21 team's playing style, winning sets 2 and 3 to take a 2-1 lead. Bich Thuy and the Vietnamese team continued to impress in set 4 but failed to capitalize on their opportunities, allowing the Dutch U21 team to equalize the score at 2-2. This boosted their morale, and they won the decisive set 5 to secure a place in the final of the Shanghai Future Stars tournament, while the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will compete against Shanghai U21 for third place. Based on her performances in the matches currently taking place in China, Bich Thuy promises to be a key player for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team participating in important upcoming international tournaments such as the SEA V.League, the World Championship , and the SEA Games.
