Many people also reported similar incidents: Subjects impersonating water supply company employees called, texted via Zalo, asking for ID cards or other relevant documents to re-sign the contract, update information in the water supply service contract. If they did not comply with the request, the subjects threatened to stop providing services to intimidate and manipulate their psychology. These subjects lured customers to make friends on Zalo or access fake links to sign online contracts. In fact, these links contained malicious code, when customers accessed and declared information, their personal data, especially bank accounts, would be at risk of being stolen.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Dinh, Deputy General Director of Dak Lak Water Supply Joint Stock Company (DAKWACO) affirmed that DAKWACO has no policy of sending employees to contact customers privately via Zalo, texting or requesting. The company recommends that customers do not provide ID card information, bank account numbers, passwords or OTP codes to phone numbers or links of unknown origin. In particular, do not make friends on Zalo with accounts claiming to be water supply employees but whose identities cannot be verified. When receiving calls claiming to be employees of Dak Lak Water Supply Joint Stock Company, customers need to contact the company's official channels for advice and support, in which the unit's customer care hotline is 0843 766 766
According to information technology experts, people need to be vigilant if they see unusual signs on their phones such as: battery draining quickly, the phone getting hot even though it is not used much, strange applications appearing that they did not install, continuously receiving OTP messages from strange services, receiving messages with meaningless characters, suspicious links... These are signs that the device may have been remotely controlled. When suspecting an intrusion, users need to immediately stop accessing strange links, change passwords, enable two-layer authentication for bank accounts and social networks. Along with that, users need to remove suspicious applications, re-check camera and microphone access rights to ensure information security. When detecting signs of fraud, people need to immediately report to the authorities for timely support and prevention.
