(NADS) – In the heroic atmosphere towards the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024), the travelogue " Cao Bang - Origin of the Vietnam People's Army" by Colonel, Journalist, Writer, Photographer Doan Hoai Trung was launched, as a deep gratitude to the history and land associated with the birth of the heroic armed forces.
Journey to find memories
Colonel Doan Hoai Trung, former Head of the Representative Office of the Military Radio and Television Center in Ho Chi Minh City, currently Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Photography Association, is not only a veteran journalist but also a person who always aspires to search for and preserve historical values. This travelogue is the result of decades of his wandering across the country, listening to and recording stories from living witnesses related to Cao Bang province - the birthplace of the Vietnam People's Army.
Twenty years ago, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, he met three surviving members of the 34 members of the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army, who had taken the oath on the afternoon of December 22, 1944, in Tran Hung Dao forest. This meeting was deeply engraved in the author's mind, urging him to continue his journey of exploring and recreating history.
“To tell these stories, I have returned to Cao Bang many times, passing through places that were once war zones, soaked in the blood and tears of his father. The vivid memories that I have heard are invaluable assets for me to pass on to today’s generations,” Colonel Doan Hoai Trung shared.
Meet the legends
The book is not only a vivid collection of pages but also a door opening to the world of people who made history. Readers will meet again outstanding generals such as General Vo Nguyen Giap, General Hoang Van Thai, Senior General Phung The Tai, Lieutenant General Nam Long… People who directly participated in and led heroic battles, carving their names into the glorious history of the nation.
In particular, the author devoted many pages to Senior Lieutenant General Be Xuan Truong, an outstanding son of Cao Bang, former Deputy Minister of National Defense, and Chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Association. Conversations and articles about him not only evoke the image of a brave soldier, but also reflect the patriotism and responsibility of soldiers towards their homeland.
Cao Bang – yesterday and today
Not only stopping at history, the travelogue also sketches the image of Cao Bang today - a land rich in potential but still in need of hands and minds to develop. The photos meticulously taken by the author, along with the delicate writing, have revived the majestic beauty of the land, which was once the cradle of the revolution.
Journalist Thai Ngoc Son, Head of the Southern Representative Office of Photography and Life Magazine, after reading the book, shared: “This is not only a history book, but also a work of art filled with emotions. Colonel Doan Hoai Trung has recreated historical stories and memories in a realistic and vivid way, while conveying his deep love for Cao Bang land. Reading this book, I clearly feel the patriotism and sacrifice of generations of fathers and brothers, and I believe that the book will create a strong influence on today's readers.”
This memoir is a special gift from the author on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army. It is not only a tribute to the land that gave birth to national heroes, but also a reminder to the younger generation of the value of peace, sacrifice and patriotism.
Hopefully, the book “Cao Bang – The Origin of the Vietnam People’s Army” will be received by readers as a valuable document, contributing to preserving and spreading immutable historical values.
