This morning (June 18), the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province and the People's Committees of the provinces, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Dak Lak in coordination with the Ministry of Transport simultaneously held groundbreaking ceremonies for projects including: Investment in construction of Ring Road 3, Ho Chi Minh City; Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway, Khanh Hoa - Buon Ma Thuot expressway.
The groundbreaking ceremony was connected online from the main bridge in Ho Chi Minh City, connecting with bridges in Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Dak Lak provinces.
At the Ba Ria - Vung Tau bridge in My Xuan ward, Phu My town (bordering Dong Nai province), Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha attended and launched the groundbreaking ceremony for component project 3 of the Bien Hoa expressway project phase 1.
The Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway Component 3 project, the section through Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, is 19.5 km long, with an investment capital of nearly VND 5,000 billion. Of which, the section through Phu My town is 15.5 km long, the end point through Ba Ria city is 4 km long. The cost of land clearance is more than VND 1,300 billion, the locality spends VND 670 billion from the reserve fund of the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2021-2025 to participate.
The entire Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway (phase 1) is 53.7 km long, with 4-6 lanes, and a total investment of VND17,837 billion. The project is divided into 3 component projects. Of which, component projects 1 and 2 are 34.2 km long, implemented in Dong Nai, with a total cost of more than VND12,600 billion.
In the completion phase, the expressway will be expanded to ensure a scale of 6-8 lanes. According to the plan, the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway project will be basically completed in 2025 and put into synchronous operation in 2026.
Speaking at the Ba Ria - Vung Tau bridge, Mr. Nguyen Van Tho, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, said that the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway component 3 project is a national key traffic project that Resolution No. 24 of the Politburo and Resolution No. 154 of the Government on the development of the Southeast region, determined to be completed and put into use by 2026.
The project aims to open a traffic route connecting localities in the region with the Cai Mep - Thi Vai deep-water port system and Long Thanh airport, helping to reduce the load and shorten travel time on the existing National Highway 51, with travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to Ba Ria expected to be only 70 minutes instead of 150 minutes as at present.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province affirmed that the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway, once formed, will contribute significantly to solving the inter-regional traffic problem, maximizing the advantages of Cai Mep - Thi Vai deep-water port and Long Thanh international airport, thereby helping businesses reduce costs, increase the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods, and create momentum for the Southeast - Southwest region to develop more strongly in the coming time.
“Ba Ria - Vung Tau promises and commits to the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister to implement the project with the highest determination, ensure the quality of the project, strictly implement regulations on preventing corruption, negativity, and waste in investment, ensure labor safety, and strive to complete the project ahead of schedule,” Mr. Tho affirmed.
On the same morning, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha also attended the groundbreaking ceremony of Phuoc An Bridge project. This bridge is more than 4.3km long, spanning Thi Vai River, connecting Phu My town (Ba Ria - Vung Tau province) with Nhon Trach district (Dong Nai province), with a scale of 6 lanes and access roads, connecting to Phuoc An port. The total investment is about 4,900 billion VND and is expected to be completed in December 2027.
This is an important project of Ba Ria - Vung Tau. Once completed, it will connect the Cai Mep - Thi Vai inter-port road with the expressway system in the region, creating a driving force for socio-economic development of the province, Dong Nai in particular and the Southern key economic region in general.
