To date, there has been no specific study analyzing the effectiveness of expressway projects on regional and local development. However, we can affirm that each completed and operational expressway is "turning time into money."
The Cam Lam – Vinh Hao expressway connects the expressway network from Ho Chi Minh City to Khanh Hoa .
Why is that? For example, if previously the journey from Hanoi to Nghe An took about 5-5.5 hours by car, now with the expressway, the time is reduced to only 2.5-3 hours. The road is better, travel speed is faster, and fuel costs and wear and tear are lower. Shorter travel time will create momentum for economic development. Opportunities to attract investment will also be distributed evenly among the localities along the expressway.
Secondly, the invested highway system is following the three core pillars of sustainable development: Economy - Social Equity - Environment.
Economically, the situation is quite clear as analyzed above. Regarding social equity, any citizen can use the expressway for convenient travel to urban centers. Environmentally, the new expressways are designed to be optimal, as straight as possible, and in harmony with nature, following the principle of "cutting through mountains," minimizing impact on the environment while ensuring efficiency, aesthetics, and environmental friendliness.
Since the highways were put into operation, they have boosted socio-economic development in the localities through which they pass, and the whole country in general, while also serving as one of the "lever" to attract investment.
Quang Ninh province can be taken as an example. Thanks to strong infrastructure development and transportation connections from road to sea, Quang Ninh has been very successful in economic development, becoming an attractive destination for investment, trade, and tourism .
To date, the expressways have clearly demonstrated their role in connecting, shortening travel time, and closely linking economic zones, growth poles in the North, and international airports including: Noi Bai (Hanoi) - Cat Bi (Hai Phong) - Van Don (Quang Ninh).
The immense benefits of highways are evident, significantly shortening distances and travel times, and enabling faster and safer transportation.
In particular, when the highway system is connected, it also reduces investment costs for other infrastructure; helping to minimize 85-95% of traffic incidents and accidents on national and provincial roads adjacent to the highway. With so many benefits, our efforts to connect the North-South highway in the near future are of great significance.
