Vung Ang - Bung Expressway before opening day

On August 19, Vung Ang - Bung is one of the components of the North - South expressway project that will be technically opened to traffic according to the direction of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Construction .

The Vung Ang - Bung Expressway is 55.34km long, of which the section through Ha Tinh province is 12.9km long and the section through Quang Tri province is 42.44km long. The project is invested by Project Management Board 6 (Ministry of Construction), started in January 2023 with a total investment of VND 12,540 billion.

The project is divided into 2 construction packages, of which, construction package XL01 is undertaken by Son Hai Group - Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation - Joint Stock Company 484 - Construction Joint Stock Company 369 - Joint Stock Company 479 Hoa Binh ; construction package XL02 is undertaken by Phuong Thanh Transport Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company and Lizen Joint Stock Company. The section through Ha Tinh belongs to construction package XL01.

The project's starting point is at the intersection with National Highway 12C, connecting with Ham Nghi - Vung Ang Expressway in Ky Hoa Commune, Ha Tinh Province and the end point is in Bo Trach Commune, Quang Tri Province, connecting with Bung - Van Ninh Expressway.

At the investment phase, the project has a scale of 4 lanes, a 17m wide roadbed, and a design speed of 80 - 90 km/h. The Vung Ang - Bung Expressway has many sections that go through complex terrain such as hills and lakes.

Along the Vung Ang - Bung expressway, there are many large-scale viaducts. For example, bridge No. 1 is located in Ky Hoa commune, Ha Tinh province, with a total investment value of about 300 billion VND. The bridge consists of 22 spans, nearly 1km long, with piers 30 - 50m high, connecting two hills, spanning a valley with rugged terrain.

The Vung Ang - Bung expressway section winds along the Kim Son reservoir with a capacity of 17.5 million ^m3 of water, located in Ky Hoa commune, creating a poetic and majestic scene.

Deo But Tunnel of the Vung Ang - Bung Expressway project is the only road tunnel on the 107.28 km long North - South Expressway through Ha Tinh. The tunnel started construction in July 2023 with a total investment of more than 1,000 billion VND, designed with 2 tunnels, the left tunnel is 716m long, the right tunnel is 840m long, each tunnel is 15m wide, 8m high. Currently, the right tunnel is completed and put into operation with 2 lanes in opposite directions, designed speed of 80 km/h. The left tunnel is used as a rescue and escape tunnel, not yet in operation.

At this time, many items in the tunnel such as median strips, road surface, lighting system, tunnel lining painting, equipment installation and fire prevention and fighting have been completed, ready for the route to be opened.

The sections on the Vung Ang - Bung expressway have been installed with guardrails, railings, road markings, traffic signs, etc.

Along the length of the Vung Ang - Bung expressway through Quang Tri province, there are also many sections crossing mountains, rivers and lakes, creating a highlight for the 12,540 billion VND expressway.

The intersections to and from Vung Ang - Bung expressway have also been completed.

The Vung Ang - Bung Expressway passes through mountainous terrain, so at locations at risk of landslides, measures to prevent landslides and landslides on the route are being implemented.

After 2 and a half years of construction, with support from local authorities in site clearance, close direction from the investor and the efforts of the contractor and the supervising consultant, the Vung Ang - Bung expressway is now guaranteed to be opened to traffic on August 19.
