About Dong Nai to listen to historical relics "tell stories"

Amidst today's bustling life, many resistance sites in Dong Nai still quietly preserve the heroic memories of a "fiery" time.

80 years after the success of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, those vestiges not only recount the feat, but also tell the story of the people, of how a land strives to preserve memories and educate traditions for future generations.

Living memories from red addresses

In mid-August, many students, union members and young people in the province came to War Zone D - the revolutionary cradle of the Southeast region. On the red dirt road leading to the war zone, laughter mixed with the tour guide's explanation echoed through the old forest canopy. There are many relics here such as: Suoi Linh Tunnel (Tri An Commune), Southeast Region Party Committee Base (Tri An Commune), Southern Central Bureau Base (Phu Ly Commune)... associated with the revolutionary struggle tradition of the army and people of Dong Nai, witnessing many fierce battles in the two resistance wars against France and the US.

Each stop is a story. It is the story of 70 nameless, ageless wind graves lying next to each other at Ma Da Martyrs Cemetery, Southern Central Bureau Base; it is the wooden-pillar houses with roofs thatched with thatched leaves; it is the trails and trenches leading to the meeting house and residences of revolutionary cadres and soldiers. It is also the Hoang Cam kitchen or the stories from images and artifacts simulating the lives and activities of revolutionary activists in the past.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tuyen, a member of the Youth Union in Long Binh Ward, said: “Visiting directly, hearing about the battles, seeing with my own eyes artifacts such as the sand table, Hoang Cam stove, soldiers’ backpacks, etc., I can clearly feel the hardships that previous generations have gone through. That makes me appreciate life today more.”

Quite far away is the Tan Hiep Prison Relic, Tam Hiep Ward - a typical evidence of war crimes. This place used to detain revolutionary soldiers and patriotic compatriots during the years of resistance against the US. In addition to the martyrs' shrine and traditional activity house, the relic also has an exhibition house, displaying and preserving revolutionary historical documents, memorabilia and images of the prison Party Committee... The relic has become a tourist attraction, a place to return to the roots for many people, especially young people and veterans.

Mr. Nguyen Van Chuong, a veteran of Tan Trieu ward, said: Every year, he and local veterans go to Tan Hiep Prison Relic to burn incense for heroes and martyrs. For him, this act is both a way to show gratitude and remembrance, and a way to remind himself and young people of the value of peace and independence today, achievements that were exchanged for blood and courage of many generations.

Not only the D War Zone or Tan Hiep Prison, throughout Dong Nai province there are many "red addresses" such as: the special national relic of the Southern Vietnam Liberation Army Command (Loc Thanh commune), Nhon Trach Tunnels (Phuoc An commune), Bien Hoa U1 Provincial Party Committee Base (Bau Ham commune), Phu My Communal House (Nhon Trach commune)... Each place name is a slice of history, a heroic memory page, contributing to creating an immortal epic about the uprising spirit of the army and people of Dong Nai in particular, and the Southeast region in general.

“In the coming time, the industry will continue to prioritize investment capital for historical and revolutionary relics; focus on renovating and restoring typical historical and cultural relics. At the same time, the industry will improve the quality and effectiveness of the work of protecting and promoting the value of national cultural heritage, both serving traditional education and linking with tourism development, contributing to boosting the local economy.”

Provincial Party Committee Member, Director of Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Thi Ngoc Loan

Preserve, promote and connect tourism development

To continue promoting the value of historical and revolutionary relics, Dong Nai has been implementing many conservation and restoration projects, while at the same time linking sightseeing activities with traditional education. Localities have applied technology, built QR codes at many relics, added information boards, and explanation systems to help visitors easily access historical stories. Many schools in the province have included the activity of "learning history at relics" in their extracurricular programs, demonstrating the morality of "remembering the source of water when drinking", helping the younger generation learn about the history and origins of the nation.

According to MSc. Phan Dinh Dung, lecturer at Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture, to develop tourism, if only using one resource, which is revolutionary relics and their legends, it will be difficult to attract the public, especially young people and foreign visitors. Therefore, the trend of developing integrated tourism is being interested, connecting revolutionary relics with other forms such as: cultural tourism, ecological tourism, discovery tourism, experience tourism, adventure tourism. This approach both diversifies products and creates sustainable appeal for destinations.

To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, Dong Nai is organizing many photo exhibitions and activities at historical and revolutionary sites. Many sites have been renovated to welcome the footsteps of today's people following in the footsteps of the past, so that the revolutionary spirit is not only in the pages of history, but also lives forever in the hearts of the people.
