On the morning of July 28, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Liver and Biliary Association and the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases held an annual conference on World Hepatitis Day with the theme "Update on new advances in Hepatitis, Cirrhosis and Liver Cancer". Reports at the conference all showed that Vietnam is in the region with the highest rate of hepatitis virus infection in Southeast Asia.
According to the World Health Organization - WHO, there are currently more than 330 million cases of hepatitis B and hepatitis C in the world, with 3 million new cases increasing each year, and the number of deaths is alarming at 1.1 million cases/year.
Vietnam is one of the countries with the highest rate of hepatitis in Southeast Asia, estimated at 15-26% of the population. The number of new cases and deaths each year is over 25,000 cases, ranking 4th in the world.
Major General, Professor, Doctor, Doctor Le Trung Hai, President of the Vietnam Liver and Biliary Association and the Vietnam Liver, Biliary and Pancreatic Surgery Association delivered the opening speech at the conference. |
Major General, Professor, Doctor, Doctor Le Trung Hai, Chairman of the Vietnam Liver and Gallbladder Association and the Vietnam Liver, Gallbladder and Pancreatic Surgery Association, said that up to now, Vietnam has performed more than 500 liver transplants, 80% of which were taken from living donors.
Because there are no symptoms, viral hepatitis is considered a "silent killer" that silently destroys human health. If the patient is not detected and treated promptly, viral hepatitis can lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer, and in the worst case, death.
