China U22 suffered a 0-1 defeat against Vietnam U22 right at home in Chengdu. Minh Phuc's only goal in the 81st minute, coming from a foul clearance by the home team's defender, once again brought sadness to Chinese youth football.

Speaking after the defeat, instead of captain Liu Haofan, defender Hu Hetao spoke up to the media: “The players have just finished the Chinese Super League and have many other matches. The whole team has only gathered and practiced together for 4-5 days.
The absence of many key players also made it difficult for us to arrange the team. However, I do not want to use that as an excuse to justify this failure.
U22 Vietnam made 7 substitutions, while our bench only had 7 players. The physical strength between the two teams in the last 20 minutes was completely different.”
The 1-0 victory of U22 Vietnam against host U22 China at the Panda Cup 2025 is not just a simple result, but also an affirmation that Vietnamese football is gradually becoming a challenging opponent, haunting Chinese fans and experts.

This is officially the first loss of Chinese youth football against Vietnam at the under-23 level, since the shocking 0-2 loss in 2019. Notably, the dramatic victory of U22 Vietnam at the 2025 Panda Cup ended the 237-day unbeaten streak of U22 China.
Chinese media even commented: “Losing a match is not a bad thing, the bad thing is not learning from failure. Chinese football not only needs to improve its techniques but also needs a comprehensive reform”.
