On November 28, in Con Dao District ( Ba Ria - Vung Tau ), the Management Board of Con Dao National Park held a ceremony to receive the title of Vietnam Heritage Tree and the record certificate of Hon Trung Bird Sanctuary of Con Dao National Park.
237-year-old black star tree becomes heritage tree in Con Dao National Park
At the ceremony, the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment awarded certificates of recognition for 24 heritage trees to the Con Dao National Park Management Board. Among them, there is 1 banyan tree at Hon Bay Canh (237 years old, 7m in circumference, 17m high); 1 banyan tree at Ong Dung Beach (155 years old, 4.6m in circumference, 14m high); 1 black star tree at Bai Dai (237 years old, 7.9m in circumference, 25m high) and a group of 21 phong ba trees at Hon Cau (119 years old, largest circumference 274m)...
Thus, up to now, the whole of Con Dao district has 105 heritage trees, including banyan, lagerstroemia, star apple, nhoi, red coc...
Black star tree recognized as heritage tree
On this occasion, the Vietnam Record Organization also awarded a certificate establishing Hon Trung as the seabird sanctuary with the highest breeding density in Vietnam to the Con Dao National Park Management Board.
Hon Trung is an important small island of the National Park, with an area of nearly 2 hectares, deserted, with only grass and rocks. This place has become the habitat and breeding ground of many rare bird species such as black-backed tern, large-crested tern, white-bellied tern, white-breasted swift, grey-headed tern... The average surveyed egg density is 4.88 eggs/ m2 .

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Khac Pho, Director of Con Dao National Park Management Board, said that the ceremony to receive the heritage tree and establish the record is also an opportunity to introduce and promote the ecotourism potential of Con Dao National Park.
"Tourists not only get to visit and explore the beautiful natural landscape, but also have the opportunity to learn about endemic flora and fauna, as well as participate in environmental protection activities. This is a form of sustainable tourism, bringing benefits not only to tourists but also to the local community and ecosystem," said Mr. Pho.
