In previous years, at this time, Mr. Nguyen Van Ty's apricot garden (Phuoc Dinh 2 Hamlet, Binh Hoa Phuoc Commune, Long Ho District, Vinh Long ) had traders come to see and place deposits, and even sell a few trees. However, this year is completely different...
For a long time, the yellow apricot tree has brought a fairly high income to people in Phuoc Dinh yellow apricot village (Binh Hoa Phuoc commune, Long Ho district, Vinh Long province), especially at the end of the year and the beginning of Tet.
Every year, about a month before Lunar New Year, traders and people from provinces and cities come to see and order apricot blossoms.
However, up to this point, with only about 2 weeks left until the traditional Tet holiday in 2025, there are still no buyers for apricot blossoms, making gardeners worried.
In previous years, at this time, the mai garden of Mr. Nguyen Van Ty (Phuoc Dinh 2 Hamlet, Binh Hoa Phuoc Commune, Long Ho District, Vinh Long Province) had traders come to see and deposit, even sell a few trees. However, this year is completely different... Although he has prepared 100 mai trees to sell for Tet, up to this point, no traders have bought them.
"December this year is a short month, my family took the opportunity to pick the mai leaves early so that the tree can bloom right on Tet. My family mainly focuses on investing in taking care of mai tieu for the Tet market.
On average, each mai tieu tree costs about a few million dong, not so expensive that it is difficult to sell. In difficult economic times, people also tighten their purse strings," Mr. Ty said thoughtfully.
Mr. Ty hopes: "I hope that in the coming days, the market will be more vibrant, so that my family can have income from apricot trees to spend during Tet."
Similar to Mr. Ty's situation, Mr. Bui Thanh Dam's apricot garden with more than a dozen carefully tended apricot trees to sell for Tet has yet to sell a single tree.
Mr. Dam said that in order to have satisfactory apricot trees to sell for Tet, he has spent a lot of effort taking care of the trees for many months now.
Mr. Dam said: A few years ago, traders came and went in droves, but now... they are gone. This year, apricot gardeners are selling at lower prices than usual, even 30-40% lower than last year.
The same apricot tree, which used to cost about 20 million VND, is now being sold by farmers for about 15 million VND or less.
Gardeners growing yellow apricot flowers in Phuoc Dinh yellow apricot village, Binh Hoa Phuoc commune, Long Ho district (Vinh Long province) hope that the yellow apricot market will flourish in the days before Tet.
Mr. Tieu Hung Minh said that recently someone asked to buy ancient yellow apricot trees, but offered a very low price.
For example, last year the yellow apricot tree cost 400 million VND, this year the farmer asked to sell it for only 300 million VND, the trader offered 200 million VND, such a low price, so the garden owner could not sell it.
According to gardeners, in previous years, except for the complicated COVID-19 pandemic, since the 10th lunar month, many traders from Ho Chi Minh City, Long An , An Giang, Dong Thap, Can Tho, Kien Giang... have come to Phuoc Dinh Golden Apricot Village to survey the market and order Tet apricots, but this year the market is very quiet.
Mr. Tran Minh Canh - Chairman of Binh Hoa Phuoc Commune People's Committee, said that due to the general economic impact, the buying and selling of members of Phuoc Dinh Yellow Apricot Cooperative also encountered many difficulties, especially the consumption of old and valuable apricot trees was even slower.
In recent days, apricot gardeners in Phuoc Dinh Golden Apricot Village are busy with the final steps to sell apricots to the market at the end of the year.
Accordingly, more than 1,600 miniature apricot trees and mini yellow apricot pots have been carefully prepared to serve the Tet market. Although the consumption market is quite quiet, apricot growers still hope to prosper in the days before Tet.
