The 2024-2025 Champions League final between Inter Milan and PSG will take place at 2:00 a.m. on June 1 at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has officially announced Romanian Istvan Kovacs as the main referee for the final. The 40-year-old “man in black” has been a FIFA referee since 2010, and has been a senior UEFA referee since 2019.
Assisting Kovacs will be his compatriots Mihai Marica and Ferencz Tunyogi. The fourth referee will be Portuguese Joao Pedro Silva Pinhero, while the VAR team will be led by Catalin Sorin Popa (Romania) and Johan Higler (Netherlands).
What makes Inter Milan fans pay special attention and consider this a positive signal is Kovacs' "fate" with Italian teams.
This will be the third European Cup final that the "man in black" has refereed. In both previous occasions, the Italian representative won.
AS Roma defeated Feyenoord 1-0 to win the 2021-2022 Conference League final. And recently Atalanta defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the 2023-2024 Europa League final.

In addition, Inter Milan themselves have had an extremely impressive record every time they play under the control of referee Kovacs. The Nerazzurri are unbeaten in all three Champions League matches that this referee has officiated.
Most recently, it was Inter Milan's 1-0 win over Arsenal in the Champions League group stage this season. A match in which Inter coach Simone Inzaghi received a yellow card from Mr. Kovacs.
As for PSG, the history of matches refereed by Mr. Kovacs has brought mixed results. The capital club of Paris has had 3 wins and 2 losses in 5 Champions League matches with this Romanian referee. This season, he refereed PSG's 0-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the group stage.
In the 2024-2025 Champions League, referee Istvan Kovacs has officiated a total of 7 matches, issued 20 yellow cards, 2 red cards and awarded 1 penalty.
