The battle for the city of Chasiv Yar in the northwestern Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine has entered its 15th month. Currently, most of the fortified areas of Chasiv Yar are under the complete control of the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF). Despite the difficult situation, RFAF units continue to “fight steadily, advance slowly”.

The main fighting has now shifted to the central part of the Shevchenko and Levanevsky sub-districts. In addition, the RFAF has taken control of a number of low-rise residential buildings. Some streets in the Shevchenko sub-district remain under the control of Ukrainian troops. West of Chasiv Yar, Russian troops have captured the eastern edge of the forest and are advancing towards the village of Nikolayevka.

In the southern part of the city, fighting continues in the village of Stupochki, where Russian troops have advanced to the northern outskirts. To the west of Stupochki there are heights, the control of which will ensure the Russian advance along the H32 highway towards the city of Konstantinovka.

It is too early to say whether the Ukrainian defenses at Chasov Yar have collapsed and that the assault is nearing its end. The RFAF’s ability to establish full control over the rest of the city has been hampered by heavy Ukrainian FPV UAV activity, making it difficult for the Russians to attack every house.

Although the RFAF units, although unable to advance as quickly as desired, continued to advance westward following the "fight steadily, advance slowly" tactic, despite many difficulties; but still persisted step by step, pushing the Ukrainian army out of the city.

Chasov Yar is currently the most important "fortress" of Ukraine, in the remaining Donetsk defensive arc; if Chasiv Yar falls in the near future, the entire northern side of the Bakhmut arc will collapse like a domino effect, opening the way for a direct advance to Konstantinovka and further to Druzhkovka and Kramatorsk.
7-427.jpg
Fully aware of the importance of Chasiv Yar to its “neighboring” city of Konstantinovka and the rest of northern Donetsk, Ukrainian defense forces are determined to hold out for the remaining 10% of the territory; despite the “rain of bombs and bullets” that the RFAF has poured on this city.
8.jpg Currently, more than 90% of the territory of this settlement is under the control of the RFAF, they have occupied most of the high-rise buildings in the city and used them as bases to deploy firepower to suppress the Ukrainian army, who are entrenched in some remaining buildings in the west and southwest of the city.
9-6831.jpg
In contrast, Ukrainian defenders are determined to hold on to the remaining 10 percent of Chasiv Yar, knowing the dire consequences of losing the city. But while the remaining Ukrainian troops are still holding out, Russian forces continue to push for the remaining neighborhoods they have not yet taken.
10.jpg
Rybar channel said that Russian artillery forces are currently actively suppressing the remaining positions of Ukrainian troops in the city. In addition, small infantry groups of RFAF are conducting continuous offensive operations every day.
11-7073.jpg
It was clear that the Ukrainians could not hold out in Chasiv Yar for long, and that retreating from the city threatened to bring them even more serious problems. However, Chasiv Yar had become the most important Ukrainian forward position in this defensive sector of the front.
8.jpg
If Chasiv Yar is captured by Russia in the near future, the entire northern side of the Bakhmut arc will collapse into a chain, opening the way for a direct attack on Konstantinovka and further on to Druzhkovka and Kramatorsk, and then on to Slavyansk.
13-261.jpg
The immediate consequence of the fall of Chasiv Yar would be that the RFAF would have a formidable attack point from the northwest into Konstantinovka, as Chasiv Yar is located at a much higher altitude than its “neighbor”. Combined with the attack from the south, it would form a pincer to encircle Konstantinovka, turning the city into a new “cooking pot”.
9-7405.jpg
The RFAF is currently actively attacking the approaches to Konstantinovka, trying to cut off the Ukrainian army's logistical communication line, connecting the city of Konstantinovka with Pokrovsk.
21.jpg
If in the coming days the RFAF can “finish” Chasiv Yar, then almost all the major cities on the defense axis of the Ukrainian army remaining in Donetsk province will be isolated and seriously shaken.
