WATCH CLIP: Big fire on Fairy Mountain in Nha Trang City (Source: Quoc Bao)
At nearly 10 p.m. on January 10, the fire on Co Tien Mountain (Vinh Hoa Ward, Nha Trang City) was still raging and spreading. From afar, the fire stretched for several kilometers, lighting up an area. Currently, nearly 100 people from many forces have been mobilized to put out the fire.
According to initial information, at around 4:40 p.m., in the planned area of production forest land, where there is cogon grass and reeds on Co Tien mountain, a fire suddenly broke out, with black smoke billowing high.
Forces including fire police, forest rangers, soldiers from Cau Bong Border Post... were mobilized to the scene, doing all kinds of things to contain and handle the fire.
However, on the mountain, strong winds, dry weather and many flammable plants caused the fire to flare up and spread, making it difficult to extinguish.
At around 9pm, 25 people who were camping overnight on the mountain were safely brought down by authorities. Local authorities have set up checkpoints in residential areas and checked households at the foot of the mountain to have an evacuation plan in case the fire spreads down there.
People are worried that the area's high, rugged terrain will make firefighting difficult.
Fairy Mountain is about 400m high, with 3 peaks located next to each other. From the top of the mountain, you can see the whole of Nha Trang city, so people often climb the mountain to camp.
