According to Section IV of Appendix I issued with Circular 105/2023/TT-BQP, the calculation of BMI index for military service is as follows:
In which, how to round height and weight: Height and weight from 0.5 and above are recorded as 1 unit; from 0.49 and below, do not take the fraction.
For example: Height 152.50 cm write as 153 cm; 158.49 cm write as 158 cm. Weight 46.50 kg write as 47 kg; 51.49 kg write as 51 kg.
During the physical examination, the person being examined must remove their hat, cap, and not wear shoes or sandals (barefoot, bareheaded): If male, must remove all long clothes, undershirts, and wear only shorts. If female, wear long pants and a thin shirt.
Height measurement: The person being measured must stand straight, heels touching each other, arms hanging naturally, eyes looking horizontally, vision is a straight horizontal line parallel to the ground.
Measuring tape: If measuring height with a tape measure on a scale, be sure to pull the top part all the way out, then adjust to get the result from the bottom part of the tape measure.
If using a wall or column with a ruler to measure, the wall or column must be vertical, the ground to stand on must not be uneven, and must be perpendicular to the wall or column used as a ruler.
The person stands in the measuring position, with the heels, buttocks, and shoulder blades touching the wall. The ruler placed to take the measurement touching the top of the head must be perpendicular to the wall.
The criteria for classification according to military service fitness are specified in Section I, Appendix I issued with Circular 105/2023/TT-BQP as follows:

According to Point a, Clause 1, Article 4 of Circular 105/2023/TT-BQP, the general standard for performing military service is to achieve health categories 1, 2, 3. Thus, if the BMI index falls into health categories 4, 5, 6 as in the table above, you will not be required to perform military service.
Where to get a military medical examination?
According to Clause 1, Article 7 of Circular 105/2023/TT-BQP, commune-level health stations conduct preliminary military service health screening under the direction and guidance on expertise and techniques of the district-level health center or district-level general hospital; and supervision of the district-level military command.
The contents of the preliminary medical examination for military service include: Exploiting personal and family medical history; Detecting cases of insufficient physical health, disabilities, and deformities specified in Section I, Section II, Appendix I issued with Circular 105/2023/TT-BQP; diseases that are exempt from military service registration specified in Section III, Appendix I issued with Circular 105/2023/TT-BQP.
