Accordingly, the new Vinh Long province will have a total of 124 commune-level administrative units (AUUs), including 19 wards and 105 communes.
This is the result of the process of rearranging and streamlining the administrative apparatus in all three localities before the merger. The merger and rearrangement of commune-level administrative units aims to improve the efficiency of state management, streamline the apparatus and comply with standards on population size and natural area.

The new commune-level administrative unit structure of Vinh Long province was formed from the rearrangement of units of the three old provinces as follows:
- Tra Vinh province area (before merger): After the reorganization, this area will contribute 41 commune-level administrative units to the new Vinh Long province, including 6 wards and 35 communes. This number is reduced by 63 administrative units (equivalent to 60.58%) compared to before the reorganization. Specifically, the structure according to districts, towns and cities in this area is as follows:
+ Tra Vinh city (4 wards): Tra Vinh, Long Duc, Nguyet Hoa, Hoa Thuan); in which, 2 more communes Nguyet Hoa and Hoa Thuan from Chau Thanh district have been merged.
+ Duyen Hai Town (2 wards): (Duyen Hai, Truong Long Hoa); 1 commune (Long Huu).
+ Cang Long district (5 communes): Cang Long, An Truong, Tan An, Nhi Long, Binh Phu.
+ Chau Thanh district (5 communes): Chau Thanh, Song Loc, Hung My, Hoa Minh, Long Hoa; of which, 2 communes have been transferred to Tra Vinh city.
+ Cau Ke District (4 communes): Cau Ke, Phong Thanh, An Phu Tan, Tam Ngai.
+ Tieu Can district (5 communes): Tieu Can, Tan Hoa, Hung Hoa, Hung Hoa, Tap Ngai.
+ Cau Ngang district (5 communes): Cau Ngang, My Long, Vinh Kim, Nhi Truong, Hiep My; of which, 1 commune has been transferred to Duyen Hai district.
+ Tra Cu district (6 communes): Tra Cu, Dai An, Luu Nghiep Anh, Ham Giang, Long Hiep, Tap Son.
+ Duyen Hai district (5 communes): Long Thanh, Dong Hai, Long Vinh, Don Chau, Ngu Lac; in which, Thanh Hoa Son commune from Cau Ngang district was merged.
Passing a resolution on approving the policy of arranging administrative units at provincial and communal levels in Tra Vinh province.
- Vinh Long province area (before merger): After the arrangement, this area will contribute 35 commune-level administrative units, including 8 wards and 27 communes. This number is reduced by 67 administrative units (equivalent to 65.69%). Specifically:
+ Vinh Long City: 5 wards (Thanh Duc, Truong An, Tan Ngai, Tan Hanh, Phuoc Hau); in which, Thanh Duc, Tan Hanh, Phuoc Hau communes from Long Ho district were merged.
+ Binh Minh town: 3 wards (Binh Minh, Cai Von, Dong Thanh); in which, adding Con Sung from Ngai Tu commune, Tam Binh district.
+ Long Ho District (3 communes): An Binh, Long Ho, Phu Quoi); of which, 3 communes have been transferred to Vinh Long City.
+ Mang Thit district (4 communes): Cai Nhum, Tan Long Hoi, Nhon Phu, Binh Phuoc).
+ Vung Liem district (7 communes): Quoi Thien, Trung Thanh, Trung Ngai, Quoi An, Trung Hiep, Hieu Phung, Hieu Thanh).
+ Tra On district (5 communes): Luc Sy Thanh, Tra On, Tra Con, Hoa Binh, Vinh Xuan); in which, the boundary with Tam Binh district is adjusted.
+ Tam Binh district (5 communes): Hoa Hiep, Tam Binh, Ngai Tu, Song Phu, Cai Ngang); in which, the boundary is adjusted with Tra On district and Binh Minh town.
+ Binh Tan District (3 communes): Tan Quoi, Tan Luoc, My Thuan.
- Ben Tre province area (before merger): After the arrangement, this area will contribute 48 commune-level administrative units, including 5 wards and 43 communes. This number is reduced by 100 administrative units (equivalent to 67.56%). Specifically:
+ Ben Tre City (5 wards): An Hoi, Ben Tre, Son Dong, Phu Tan, Phu Khuong; in which, some communes from Giong Trom, Mo Cay Bac, Chau Thanh districts were merged.
+ Chau Thanh District (4 communes): Phu Tuc, Giao Long, Tien Thuy, Tan Phu; of which, 3 communes have been transferred to Ben Tre City.
+ Giong Trom District (7 communes): Hung Nhuong, Giong Trom, Tan Hao, Phuoc Long, Luong Phu, Chau Hoa, Luong Hoa; of which, 1 commune has been transferred to Ben Tre City.
+ Ba Tri district (7 communes): Tan Thuy, Bao Thanh, Ba Tri, Tan Xuan, My Chanh Hoa, An Ngai Trung, An Hiep.
+ Binh Dai district (7 communes): Thoi Thuan, Thanh Phuoc, Binh Dai, Thanh Tri, Loc Thuan, Chau Hung, Phu Thuan.
Cho Lach district (4 communes): Phu Phung, Cho Lach, Vinh Thanh, Hung Khanh Trung; in which, Hung Khanh Trung A commune from Mo Cay Bac district has been merged.
+ Mo Cay Bac district (3 communes): Phuoc My Trung, Tan Thanh Binh, Nhuan Phu Tan); of which, 2 communes have been transferred to Ben Tre city and Cho Lach district.
+ Mo Cay Nam District (5 communes): Dong Khoi, Mo Cay, Thanh Thoi, An Dinh, Huong My.
+ Thanh Phu district (6 communes): Dai Dien, Quoi Dien, Thanh Phu, An Qui, Thanh Hai, Thanh Phong).
After the resolution approving the merger policy was issued by the People's Councils of the three localities, the People's Committee of Vinh Long province was assigned to preside over and coordinate with the People's Committees of Ben Tre and Tra Vinh provinces to complete the dossier to submit to competent authorities for consideration and official decision on the merger and approval of this administrative unit arrangement plan.
This is an important step in restructuring administrative space, promising to create new momentum for the socio-economic development of Vinh Long province in the future.
