This morning, June 9, the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) held the draw ceremony for the 2025 ASEAN Women's Football Championship, ASEAN Women's MSIG Serenity Cup (AFF Cup) in Hanoi .
The 2025 AFF Women's Championship will take place from August 6 to August 19 at two locations: Lach Tray Stadium ( Hai Phong ) and Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho).
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Major General Khiev Sameth, President of AFF, emphasized that Vietnam has always been the leading flag in promoting women's football and hoped that other football nations such as Cambodia or Timor Leste will also rise strongly to mark historical milestones for the Southeast Asian region.
"Over the years, ASEAN teams such as Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand... have shone in the AFF regional arena, performed excellently at the continental level, and proudly represented at the FIFA Women's World Cup. The Organizing Committee hopes that this year's tournament will not only be a stage for top-notch competition, but also inspire a generation of young girls across ASEAN: dare to dream bigger, aim for greater heights, and compete with courage and pride," said AFF President Khiev Sameth.
In his role as host, President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Tran Quoc Tuan emphasized that being assigned by the AFF to host the 2025 AFF Women's Football Championship and organizing the event's draw ceremony is an honor for Vietnamese Football, continuing to affirm the VFF's commitment to accompanying women's football in the region, thereby contributing to further promoting the development of women's football, while spreading the passion for this sport to a large number of fans.
According to the draw results, as the host of Group A (held in Hai Phong), the Vietnam Women's Team is in the same group with Thailand, Indonesia and Cambodia.
This is a group that promises many challenges for coach Mai Duc Chung and his team, because Thailand is the strongest opponent in the region, and is the record holder of the championship in the history of the tournament. Meanwhile, the Indonesian Women's Team and the Cambodian Women's Team have also made remarkable progress in recent years.
In Group B (Viet Tri), the competition is considered equally interesting and fierce between opponents Philippines, Myanmar, Australia and Timor Leste.
The teams will compete in a round robin format to determine the top two teams in each group to advance to the semi-finals, which will take place on August 16. The third-place match and the final will take place on August 19.
In this arena, the Vietnamese Women's Team has won the championship 3 times in 2006, 2012 and 2019. Meanwhile, Thailand is still the team holding the championship record with 4 times in 2011, 2015, 2016 and 2018.
With the Vietnam Women's Team, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team went to Japan for training in the early morning of June 8, preparing for the 2026 Asian Women's Qualifiers.
Sharing about the training session's goals, coach Mai Duc Chung said that after nearly 1 month of being stationed at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center (Hanoi), the players have completed their physical and technical skills. Moving into the new phase, the team will focus on friendly matches to perfect the squad and test replacement personnel./.
