Free film screenings are organized annually by the Vietnam Film Institute to introduce revolutionary cinematographic works to the public.
Three films were selected to be screened for free on the occasion of National Day, September 2, 2023, including From a Forest , No Horizon and Obsession . All three films will be screened at 9am on August 29-31 at Ngoc Khanh Cinema (523 Kim Ma, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi ).

The opening film series celebrating the 78th anniversary of National Day, September 2nd, is From a Forest. This film was produced in 1978 by female director Duc Hoan, with actors Le Dung Nhi, Van Hiep, Kim Thanh... From a Forest tells the heroic story of young men and women who volunteered to join the youth force, regardless of danger for the ideal of protecting the Fatherland.
No Horizon was produced in 1986 by director Nguyen Khanh Du, expressing the haunting, fierce pain of war, while also showing the desire for happiness and life through the character Nga (Thanh Quy). Nga is determined to protect the life of her unborn child in the midst of the brutality of war. The film was released on August 30.

On August 31, another film by director Duc Hoan - Obsession (1988) - closed the film series celebrating the 78th anniversary of National Day, September 2. Obsession depicts the image of a soldier (Thuong Tin) who, out of fear, defected to the enemy, and was haunted by his sins for the rest of his life.
Director Duc Hoan is one of the rare female directors who left a mark in the history of Vietnamese revolutionary cinema.
